Title: S+ Strange Behaviour On & Off
Post by: AcePeter on September 20, 2019, 07:05:32 AM
Hello I have an IGT S+ that plays great for awhile then it begins to stop during play but comes back on. When it stops the credits and entire display goes off to, but it comes back on and continues to play as normal. Has anyone has else had this problem? I'm thinking it may be the MPU.

Check the connector at motherboard coming from power supply.  Sounds like it may be burnt and getting intermittent power.  Unplug it and look on backside of connector for burn marks.

Maybe the door optics need checked for alignment or failing?

Thanks for the tips. I just now pulled out another MPU from another IGT S+ (same game theme) and it works great. I noticed some acid on the MPU of the machine in question. Guess the MPU may have acid damage. Wonder if it can be saved with an acid cleaner.

The damage has already been done.  Cleaning it now will do no good.

Thanks  :I_agree_1: . I sure appreciate the help.  I'll look around for another MPU.

I still suspect that this is not an MPU problem. I still think its the connector on the motherboard.
The mother board is the small board that the MPU plugs into.
It has a large 4 wire connector down the middle if you pull this off you will get the same behavior that you are seeing.
I had this issue on one of mine. I pulled the molex off - cleaned the pins with a white rubber eraser, and just slightly bent the pins in 4 different directions to ensure I had good contact.
The end ones I moved outwards and the two center pins - one back, and one forward - and I do mean just slightly.
Once I pushed the molex back on I had no further issues.

My suggestion is to keep playing with your current MPU board and see if the problem resurfaces.
If not then swap back to the suspect MPU board and see if it reoccurs.

The ability to solve any problem is first to be able to re-create the issue.

I had the same problem on my S+, and it turned out to be a bad fuse holder.  I can't remember if it was the 24V or 8v holder.  However, I took them both apart cleaned, straighted out the metal connections and no more problems.

Hope this helps
