Post by: sh61526 on December 24, 2023, 08:06:49 AM
Just got a reel touch today i can get the bottom half to work but no video on the screen i get beep on startup and put a new power supply in it i also changed battery on motherboard. Would low battery on main board cause this

Are you just getting one beep?
Try removing and reinstalling the memory sticks in the top box. Do this three or four times for each one..
Look at the caps on the motherboard, are they bulging on top of them.
In a darkened room see if the screen at least has the backlighting working
When you say the bottom is working does the VFD get to "waiting for video display?

Ok good information.
The top box is working except for the video, that' gives us a place to start..
Now see if you can see some brightness in the screen when you turn it on.
Inside the top box there is an orange daughter card on the cpu.
That is the video card. Try very carefully reseating the plugs going to that board , but first check the backlighting like described above.

You can hook a monitor to check but you won't have any touch screen.

I get a ms verify comm error and the top screen rebooting with the top box unplugged what should I try next

Leave the top box plugged in.
You can try hooking a computer monitor to the plug on the side of the top box using the monitor plug there.
If that shows image we will have to start troubleshooting the lcd monitor.
Still would like to know if the backlighting is working.  Darken the room and try to see if the black lcd screen gets just a little brighter when powered on.

Something doesn't sound correct.
You said if you leave it hooked up the bottom will eventually play the game but nothing on the top screen.
If you disconnect the gray wired 4 pin molex going to the distribution box you will get display on the top box.

You will need to attach some pictures of the machine.
What is the theme of the game? Pictures of the entire front of the machine  the inside of the top box
Also what SB,SG chip numbers on the lower mpu.
Almost sounds like a vision machine. If you get display on the top monitor it should not matter if it is plugged in to the distribution box or not.

If you leave it unplugged from the distribution box what screen does the monitor finally end up on? It should say initializing please wait. This could take ten minutes to get to that but that screen should stay there.
Need pictures of whatever you can get on the top display as it is booting.

Do you have a email i can send you pictures all files are too large

Try sending the pictures through your phone it should give you an option to reduce the size, save those and post here.
Not trying to be a pain in the ass but the site is here for others to learn also and they would need to see the pictures remember 1MB per reply total so you may have to post only one or two pictures per reply so multiple replies may be required

Ok the top box is operational nothing else to do there.
So if you plug the top box in through the distribution box to connect it to the bottom you are getting no video?
Please tell me game theme and SB/SG chip numbers from the bottom mpu?

That chip set should work, it should be bios one game.
When you can see the video(unplugged from the bottom) the first screen should be a red white and blue finger splash screen.
Please post a picture of the connectors plugged in on the back and side of the top box.
Do you have any history on this machine at all? Did previous owner say anything about it?
When the game does play, does it pay out correctly? What happens if you hit a bonus game?
Pictures of all connections will help.
This is a strange problem because the bottom box connection is a link only and should not affect the video.

The nice thing about a bios one game the top box battery can be dead and the game will still work properly.
Most bios one games won't let you get to the bios screen using the keyboard like bios 2.
It will ask for a password that knowone knows.
Your top box is working I would not play with it at this time.

Nothing plugged in to the side where you would put the keyboard and monitor correct?
Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 26, 2023, 10:30:58 AM
Yes
Time for a recap of where we are.
With everything plugged in, turn the machine on. The bottom should boot and eventually gets to ms verify... and the game will play wheels spin etc. But no video display at all.

Now try with the machine off. Unplug the molex plug from the back of the top box that has the three gray wires.
Boot the machine, the bottom will get to waiting for video display on the VFD and will eventually error out.
I want to know if anything comes up on the top box during this time.

Unplugged molex 3 gray wires get waiting on netplex then display passes self test speaker pops and 3 beeps and never get anything from screen
Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 26, 2023, 11:08:37 AM
OK so what are you unplugging when you get the top screen to operate?
Title: Re: No video
Post by: sh61526 on December 26, 2023, 11:12:21 AM
The gray wires going into ditsbution box behind where the hopper should be
Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 26, 2023, 11:19:42 AM
That does not make sense because those are the same gray wires from the molex plug you disconnected on the top box.
follow those wires to the bottom of the cabinet and they should go to the power distribution plug that you said you diconnected to get the top box to work.

Post by: sh61526 on December 26, 2023, 11:28:07 AM
I know if i disconnect it i get the finger then black file screen the igt blue screen waiting then a blue screen flases about a warning and it restarts
Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 26, 2023, 11:33:54 AM
three questions
1) Are you unplugging your gray wires when the machine is on to get the top to display?
2) Verify that those are the same gray wires going to the molex plug that I had you disconnect
3) what does the warning say
Title: Re: No video
Post by: sh61526 on December 26, 2023, 11:38:30 AM
No i never have unplugged anything while it's on and yes I followed it from the distribution box to a plug behind the reels then to the box that is below where the power supply for the top box plugs in
Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 26, 2023, 11:51:00 AM
should go directly from the molex up top to the distribution box on the bottom with no detours to a plug behind the reels. You need to find out where and what is it going to behind the reels.
Even with that being said when you disconnected the molex plug on top box the screen should have worked.
Title: Re: No video
Post by: sh61526 on December 26, 2023, 12:11:52 PM
It goes from the distribution box to a silver area that has more plugs on left hand side of top of reels then lesves that plug to the top box I'm getting a bloue screen that windows has deteted a error and shutting down and it reboot to the finger screen
Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 26, 2023, 12:55:28 PM
More questions
1) When you have it in the configuraton where the top box shows video will that work every time or is it intermittent?
2) Really need to see the silver box behind the reel you are talking about
Title: Re: No video
Post by: sh61526 on December 26, 2023, 01:00:44 PM
It's not really a box it's just a area that has like 4 plugs that you can disconnect is there anything in the settings that could of been turned on or off to make tnis happen I don't know what all was done before I got it
Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 26, 2023, 01:14:04 PM
Nothing in the settings
With the molex unplugged at the top when you power up you hear three or four beeps (should be four) from the top then nothing on the screen?
I ask this because at that point the top box is totally disconnected from the rest of the machine. It only is using the power supply behind it on top. Note the green boarder you talk about is controlled by the lower CPU and is not part of top box operation.
I'm beginning to think there may be some hard drive issues.

I'm getting 4beeps on startup then a little later bv cycles and 4 beeps again then it goes to display pass self check i'm with you on a hard drive it comes up with the blue screen wanting to start in safe mode I want to thank you for your time helping me out

No problem
Have you checked the top box motherboard for swollen capacitors. They would be bulged on the ends.
Even a bad harddrive you should still get the initial finger splash screen with the gray molex plug disconnected. We need to see at least that every time you power it up before we go to a harddrive replacement.

I use to get the finger screen i get nothing now noreel lights they are not firm anymore no bulging cap on motherboard get 4 beeps on startup bv cycles i get waiting for video display then i get msverify comm error I think I have lost bios on motherboard and hard drive
Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 26, 2023, 05:57:04 PM
I understand that with the gray molex disconnected the bottom cpu is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.  It will say waiting for video display and eventually error out. You will get no Reel lights like this
We are trouble shooting the top box.
That being said do you get the four beeps and the finger splash screen every time you power it up?

Caps are not swollen because your motherboard has been replaced.
That is probably a good thing they are scarce. Have you reseated the memory sticks a few times?
With the gray molex unplugged do you get the finger splash screen on every power up?
Title: Re: No video

I have reseated the memory stick and all plugs a few time I haven't got ithe finger screen to come up anymore i use to get up to inilazing screen but only if i had it unplugged from the distribution box

Title: Re: No video

Yes we want the gray wires unplugged you should at least get the splash screen.
Are you still getting the beeps?
Also you can take the two brass screws out of the daughter card and reseat it.
Title: Re: No video
Post by: sh61526 on December 27, 2023, 11:52:38 AM
I reseated the daughter board and no I don't get the finger screen anymore I haven't got it to come on since i got a blue screen that I need a bios update and press f8 to go in safe mode so is the bios on the motherboard or is it part of the hard drive
Title: Re: No video

Try replacing the battery on the top. I don't think it will do anything.
So your getting no video what so ever?
Title: Re: No video
Post by: sh61526 on December 27, 2023, 12:55:43 PM
New battery and all i get is display self test passed i have had it on for hours haven't been able to get any results from the screen since I got the blue screen of death like the old computer use to do
Title: Re: No video

Where are you seeing display self test pass?
If that's on the lower vfd it has nothing to do with the top box!!
What if anything is the top box doing?

Title: Re: No video
Post by: qbert on December 27, 2023, 02:48:10 PM
The top and bottom are two totally different systems.
The top box doesn't time out.
Anything on the VFD is the bottom mpu.
What is timing out?
Are there still beeps from the top at least?
Title: Re: No video
Post by: sh61526 on December 27, 2023, 02:56:08 PM
Yes I still get the 4 beeps i was just figuring after 2 and 1/2 hours of being on that the top box was just timing out still no activity just a backlight on screen
