Title: Mills will not payout on any winning combo
Post by: Jim on January 12, 2015, 07:40:45 AM
driving me crazy, 5 cent machine, nothing jammed anywhere, took all the coins out,  during the wind up phase, the slides are reset, the arm that is positioned by the reel lock up fingers is going in to slide area to hold the slides in place and take pressure off the payout fingers(all the horizontal payout fingers will move freely at this point) then after the reels lock up, a winner is detected, the slides are up against the horizontal payout finger( cherry pay ) bottom slide, and because of this no other payouts will happen. if I wiggle the bottom slide area I can get it to payout, can't see what is causing it to bind up.?  does anyone have pictures of what the slides look like in their respective places??  Have a Buckley 25 cent machine, appears to be  mills mech (very similar) the operate the same in comparing the slide operation, the slides  are different for 25 cent machine.

any suggestions or help.

hello,

couple things to look at.   first, make sure the vertical payout fingers are detecting the pay discs and moving the horizontal pay fingers appropriately BEFORE the slides are released by the timing bar.    the horizontal pay fingers should have no tention on them except for the springs when the slides are being held back.  if the timing bar is releasing the slides before the vertical pay fingers are activated,  the pressure from them can prevent the pay fingers from moving.   in most machines,  the "fifth click" (payout release) should happen a second or two after the vertical detectors.

second,  check to see if your mills has a anti cheat lever under the horizontal pay levers.   this lever will have an arrow head shape on the back end(when looking from the back of the machine) and will have a spring attached to a short cotter pin under the mech.   it has to move freely to reset.   it's held with one screw near the slide pushing rod.  this lever, when activated, will relase the bottom safety slide under the pay slides and will block any payout.

Hope that helps.

Oh,  One more thing that can cause them to jam...dirt.   the slides are meant to run dry.  any grease or lubrication can cause them to stick.  i've restored many machines where i found WD40 has been sprayed all about and after a short while,  WD40 will evaporate and leave a black clay like substance.

Thanks for your reply,  that's what was happening, the payout slides were being released too early and putting tension on the horz. payout fingers. After about an hour of watching and slowing down the cycle I was able to determine what was going on. The way I got it work: I ended up repositioning (bending) the small upright tab that comes in contact with the reel timing plate, it determined how long the slides were being held back.  Don't know if this is a long time fix, but it worked every time.

The payout or no pay level was removed on this machine, as was a lot of other items.   Thanks again for your reply.

the arrow shaped device was operating as it should.

Glad to hear it was an easy fix.    I've repaired some machine that had that same issue.
