Title: Game Room Build Thread in CO
Post by: ramegoom on May 10, 2015, 02:01:16 PM
My previous post showed my collection in a very cool space. But now, since I have the room, I'm gearing up to build a purpose-built toy room. No cars though, but about everything else.

Starting out with 2900 sq. ft. and nine foot ceilings. I will put in a bathroom, two bedrooms, shop and bar. The rest is open to imagination. I will be "imagining" for a while...

So I started by painting the ceiling black. Already positioned the pool table in between the posts.

Next up will be the bar top, a circular "Beetle-Kill" piece, 10 ft. OD, 6 ft. ID, 3 in. thick. Finally, one big room with minimal walls. The rest will be photographed as I progress. Here's the space I am working with:

Very cool! I look forward to seeing it finished. By the looks of it you can fit about 300 machines in there, or 600 stacked!  :cool_thumb_up:

Ha! Actually there will be about 20 slots, a ball bowler, a puck bowler, a sit-down Cruis'n USA, about 6 pinball machines, and a few more arcade games. Plus a 1958 Gandy 8 ft. pool table right in the middle, surrounded by Bally slots. And, if I can fit a Skee Ball machine in after this, it'll get one of them.

I even put in a "Prize Room" for the grandkids. It's getting out of control already.

Made some progress. Installed a "walk-out" on the side of the house, and concrete is all in place:

Great planning putting in all the outlets!!
Title: Re: Game Room Build Thread in CO
Post by: ramegoom on October 30, 2015, 12:36:52 PM
I put an outlet every 3 ft on the wall where the pinball machines are going. And kept them high to conceal the cords. Then added several 6 ft high outlets for future neon sign additions.
Lots of flexibility for outlets and lighting since I did the work :-)

Somehow you can never have enough outlets. Putting the high one's for the signs is a great idea.
I never liked the cords running up the wall!

Great Job!

Glad you haven't bought any parts from me, I don't know where you live.., I'd show up in my RV to stay for a few years and hang out in your game room, like Eddy does in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Hahaaa.. - Hey, a free shabby slot tech at the very least.., or at most.  :rotfl:

Looks great, and look forward to completion.  :cool_thumb_up:

Too bad you're not closer, looking to sell my Hydros (4th is in the shop - ran out of room because of the Crusin Exotica's). All linked too! "Loser does dishes!". Limited customer base due to their size (most people don't have room for them).

Your game room looks good, a polite suggestion though: Put some UV film on the windows near games. The sun WILL fade any color artwork, decreasing re-sale value.

Post by: ramegoom on January 03, 2016, 08:44:34 AM
Wow! You have some serious drivers there. You're right, floor space is a factor in the bigger machines (case in point, I have two bowlers and a skee ball machine. Careful arrangement allowed those to fit). Plus, on some of the bigger machines, you need to occasionally access the rear of the machine - so you sometimes need to place it away from any wall, which aggravates the floor space issue.

For my previous game room, I had a pair of Cruis'n USA machines, but couldn't fit both in the room, so one had to go. I kept the neon sign and built an enclosure around it, and now it graces the upper wall of my Cruis'n.

My window wall faces southwest, so the sun, while coming on strong in the afternoon, hits at such an angle that it doesn't get to any of the machines. Where I put the walkout door is on the west facing wall, which was once a window, and it DID burn the room up. So the door gets no window, and fixes the sun problem.

I'm not a drinker either, but can't say the same about guests...

I want to put a bar-top game on the bar, and was thinking that I have this "Magic Respins" machine that's not working, so I could convert it to a small bowler (Coors Bowling) as I have a JAMMA board and all I need to do is add a trackball and a few buttons.

If I could find ANY info on the Magic Respins by Thomas Automatics, I would attempt to resurrect it. Problem is in the CPU and have been unsuccessful in finding any parts for it. Otherwise, it's a nice oak cabinet with a vertical CRT in it.
