Title: Can the experts help? What progressive meter do I have here?
Post by: Zippe on June 24, 2015, 05:06:48 PM
Hello, I am new to slot ownership and luckily found this forum. I have tech skills and have recently restored a 1970's pinball, so if someone can tell me what to do I am sure I can handle the tinkering needed.

I have an IGT Triple Double Wild Cherry and desperately want to add a progressive meter to it. Either behind the glass single or double mini-photon, or a large screen single in place of the player card slot and tracking bar.  I don't really care about scrolling messages or colors, just want a working progressive display. A friend of mine recently gave me a black box and LED bar that I was hoping can be used in my slot, however I have no idea what exactly it is or what I need to do to connect it.  It powers up and goes through many menu options by sliding the "config" switch and then pressing the yellow "option" and "value" buttons.  Can anyone provide some guidance please?

If this will not work with my machine, perhaps someone is interested in making a trade for a progressive display that will?
Thank you,
Ed

I believe the unit you have is a Spextronics, I have no experience with them. I think vtyler was playing with one but I don't know if he ever got it working.
If you are not interested with scrolling message by far the easiest progressive system to set up and use is a Spectrum type you should be able to get one for under a hundred bucks. Here is the link to setting up a spectrum http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=4863.0 (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=4863.0).
If you put it in the player tracking area you will have to remove the unit from it's metal case, many have done that very successfully.
No matter what progressive system you choose you will need a key chip to set up the machine. I see you have an enhanced MPU board so a Key 45 should work just fine. Anyone of the many vendors here should be able to help you with a key chip.

Let us know what you decide we can help you every step of the way.
