Title: s+ optic test issue
Post by: IGTiger on October 25, 2023, 05:31:50 PM
Hi everyone,

When following Jim's instructions here:

https://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=14723.0
To run the optic test,  go to the input test 10_1 in the Winner Paid window. Usually press the white test button 3 times.  Unplug the cc-16 and remove it, now insert a Popsicle type stick  down into the  black optic area and move it east and west, you should see the 1 change to a 0,  do the same for 11_1 and 12_1   they should all change. To advance to 11_1 and 12_1 turn the jackpot reset key one time after each test. If they all work, you may have the wrong black optic in the assembly, you can unplug the optics, remove the two screws and take out the optic and look at it,  it should have the 25 cent wording on it (for a quarter machine) and the quarter should fit between the guide.

11_1 and 12_1 work fine but I can't get 10_1 to display  It initially displays as 10_0 and won't toggle to 10_1 when I put the popsicle stick in.

Thinking the optic board is bad, I ordered 2 more on Ebay and the issue persists.. I'm pretty sure this is why I'm getting an error 21.  Hard to believe all 3 boards are bad?

Thanks for any help :)

if all the wiring is good you should have a 10-1,11-1,12-1  without doing anything, the fact that 10-0 indicates that maybe the ten pin connector wiring for that optic is not making a good connection, while in the 10-0 test, wiggle that connector while watching the display, see if you can get a 1 to appear during the wiggling, if so , then disconnect the connector, shine a light source from the back (wiring side), observe the connectors, they all should have the contact hitting the top of the connector, if one of them is not, then that is your problem,  take out the wire and connector and re shape and reinsert.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply!  No luck unfortunately.. The connection looks good?

FYI I have the coin comparator disconnected.. I purchased the machine with this issue and the comparator light never did light up..

Maybe the next step is try replacing the "Main Coin Acceptor and Optic Board Harness Cable?"

Hi Jim,

I got an update!

So checked all connections again and re-seated the gameboard.

I tested an optic board with Q2 removed and 10_1 10_2 and 10_3 passed.

My 2 boards without Q2 removed now have 10_1 stuck on but won't toggle to 10_0

Still error 21 stuck on with optic board with Q2 removed but at least I'm making some progress?

Another update.. We are up and working with the optic board with Q2 removed!!

Not quite sure exactly why Q2 is preventing 10_1 from working but thanks for your help Jim :)
