Title: Bally Curve NVRAM Fault after battery change
Post by: Canaslot on December 19, 2022, 09:12:54 PM
My Bally Curve had a NVRAM Low Battery 1 and NVRAM Low Battery 2 message.  I changed the 2 batteries and also changed the backplane battery.  I used the clear card and now I am getting a NVRAM driver mount failure message, also the message to  "turn attendant key to see fault or restart system" does not do anything when the key is turned.  I have checked the 3 new battery voltages and they are 3.2 to 3.5 volts.  I have checked all connections, looked for bent pins several times.  Attached is the screen shot of the error messages.  Looking for a solution, Thanks in advance....

I did an entire forum search with "NVRAM driver mount failure" and got a number of results. Here's the first 4! Hope the answer is in here for you. There were a few more so just input those terms and you'll get 'em.

Thanks for the info.  I had already tried the suggestions in the posts and no luck.  I guess the next thing is to go thru and clean connections, re-seat chips, and double check the battery connections, and see if that helps.

I found a jumper loose by the 2 batteries and U62 on the mpu.  It is labeled:
SPI WP
 JP4
What does it do and should it be closed or open?
What does U62 do?

Have you checked the NLG File System? There's a Bally Alpha section with schematics. Since you're a contributing member, you have access to all that. It might show the configuration. I see some but I'm no expert on this machine, and you might spot what you need faster than me.

Jumper is used to update the bios and should be as shown in the pic, open. The chip next to it is the jurisdiction chip.

It's Friday and I am still beating my head against the wall on  "NVRAM mount failure message"  I have tried different batteries, done a clear several times, reset the mpu, checked all connections and still have the MESSAGE.  The machine seems to all work correctly until the MESSAGE appears.  Does anyone have any more suggestions?  Any help would be appreciated.

Are you able to clean slate the system by cleaning the filesystem, reloading the OS and game packages and doing the ram clear again or are you missing software to do a full reload?

The only cards I have is a Clear card and an Install Card.

If you just boot with the install card only, you can perform a factory wipe (or is it called erase?)  You will need the OS installer card/flash drive as well as the game card to reload everything back though.  If you don't have the OS loader or game loader card(s), you should not factory wipe.

I will have to buy the correct OS installer and anything else I need if I do a wipe.  I have programmed PLCs and installed slot games before, but this is unfamiliar territory.  Not that I couldn't do it, but it might take some study.

I'm more used to baselining the MPU so I'm not entirely familiar with the non-nuclear options.
