Title: Alpha LED ring around the reels question.
Post by: Harvs on April 14, 2014, 09:27:30 AM
-Is there a setting to enable or disable the ring that lights up around the reels during certain wins?

-Is that controlled by the OS or game CF card? Game dependent?

-Do those lighted rings go bad often?

I've been pickin' and grinnin' lately, but have yet to see the lighted ring a' light. (And to those that threatened to beat me up, calling me a traitor.., I will always be an IGT guy! Hahaha)
It's a Hee-Haw, 512, with 317 OS.

Thanks for any help!

1)There is no setting to disable the light ring.
2)The light ring is game specific.
3)Don't know.LED's normally last a long time
On the 3 games I have, the lights come on quite frequently.
The harness to the light ring comes from a board on the left side of the cabinet

Thanks, That answers my questions!!   :1:

I do not have that board in my machine. The wire(s) simply run to the left side of the reels and are zip-tied.

What is the name of that board? And I know there are a million versions of 'Alphas', but is that a universal part?

Thanks again!

You can go into the menu to test to see if yours is working or not.  Open Door > Press Test Button >  On Menu touch Diagnostics > Touch Game > Touch test Door bezel (Note that actual verbiage could be slightly different...working from memory which is never good).

Jim - Thanks for the info. I am new to the Alphas so taking note on any tips while in the menu(s).

B - Yes, I need to get the correct board and then make sure all is working.

Does anyone know if those boards are universal? Or should I be looking for the types of molex connectors etc to match with the board needed?

Thanks Fellas

Here is a picture of all the wires where that board goes. It may help match it to the proper board needed.

Thanks for any help.

Hah...yeah didn't realize that board was missing....yep you might need one of those.  I have been through a lot of those machines and I don't recall ever seeing any differences in them so I would say yes they are universal.

I talked to harv on phone a bit ago. I see three diff. type.  My alphas have the 2006 boards in them with no removable 8 pin chip, the 03's have removable 8 pin chip and the 2009's have more plugs but still the same as used on o6 with more dip switches.  I believe this may be flashed (2006/2009) but not positive as they both have surface mount memory on them.  Guess I could try a 2009 one day and see if it works in place of 2006 type.  The pics that were posted in this thread so far are 03 and 06 boards.

These two are in machines I have that are dated 02/07
They both are marked 06 on the circuit board.
They both work as they should on different games.?????

Yup that's the one I need. My machine is dated 07/06.

I have seen other boards that are dated 2003 and 2009, not sure if those would work, and really don't want to take the risk trying (I'm new to Alphas).

I have a few buddies looking for an extra 2006 board for me, hope they find one!!

Thx

And if you notice in this pic. It seems I have a light ring around the top box monitor as well.. At least the other blk molex runs up to the top box. That'd be a bonus!

I'd be 'connectin' N grinnin',  and then 'pickin' N grinnin'  Ha

Both type boards in DF777's pic.s should work.  The raw board manufacture date in df's lower bottom pic is a 2003 that uses the 8-pin removable chip. the top pic is a 2006 board that has that chip intergrated into the board (flash).

Board installed! All works well except the colors on the top ring. When the jumper is set to SINGLE, the top ring is all different colors, when the jumper is set to DUAL, the top ring no longer lights during larger hits (which I have it set to now).

Maybe a dipswitch setting? Or this game doesn't support dual light rings? Idk... Just glad it's working!

Yours at least looks uniform. Mine looks like it drank spoiled milk..

I will post back after I do some research.
