Title: GAME ROOM UP AND RUNNING
Post by: RiseLikeRa on May 23, 2017, 06:09:06 AM
Group:

After a horrific move from my primary home I have my game room back up and running.  Thank God! 11 machines all moved by sketchy looking schleppers and not a single glass broken.  There were some minor issues due to shifting of hoppers and upper units but nothing that this list has not prepared me for.  The area that I have now is much more condensed than my previous basement game room but I am not complaining.  I would really like to find a multi game video with the old pac man, defender, Space Invaders all in one to top the room off.  NLG Family come over and and drop in a coin or two.

Ra,

Looks really nice!
Where did you get those hexagon slot stands? Never seen those before.
If I'm in your area I'll stop by and drop a few quarters.

Good to hear it went as well as it did. I'd be worried every minute that someone was handling the machines for transport. A lot of times people don't realize how difficult it can be to get replacement glass or other parts for these older machines.

David:  The stands are for fish tanks.  Because of the weight of these games a wal-mart table would not suffice.  A little modification was needed for each stand but that is part of the fun.

Rok, I was worried indeed during the move.  Most glasses are pretty common but the Golden Nugget, Arrow Line and the TV Dice IGT glasses I would probably never be able to replace.  Lots of active coaching, cautions and prayers got the games here safely.  My neighbor moved only 1 game 1 month before me to the Carolinas and his well know national movers broke his belly glass and reel glass.

Yes the NLG family members are welcome to stop by and play my slots anytime.  A few members of the group have taken me up on my offer over the years.

Stay well all.

Ra,

Do you have any advice for handling/moving machines? How is it best done safely?

Beautiful game room! These are the types of machines I would have if I had disposable funds! Love the Bally Medalist and early video craps/21/poker machines!

Thanks for all of the flowers.  I just feel blessed.  Five times, as for as best practices moving the games, most say that you should  1.  Protectct the glass at all costs..  For My 11 machines I covered the glass with at least two layers of cardboard.  A light wood or plastic is even better.  I covered each glass seperately.  3 sections per game.  Then I wrapped each machine with its own moving blanket and doubled the thickness in the vulnerable front,  Then I bought that wrap stuff like food storage wrap or stuff they use to wrap pallets with.  I made a mummy of each.

It is highly recommended that the hoppers, reel mech and head units be removed prior to transport.  I just removed ALL of the coins in the cabinet and prayed for the best.  For transporting I have a GOOD quality hand truck with pneumatic tires to minimize jolts.

Tilt, I though that the candy machines would be a nice addition to the room.  There is candy in both of them.  I purposely do not fill them up since I dont have a lot of visitors I dont want my skittles and cherry sours getting old and hard.  This collection is 11 years in the making.  Smooth you can have anything that you work and save for. That is what I have been doing.

Lets keep giving our old games new life!

Do you have a photo of the machines all wrapped up?

David:

Things were happening so fast that I did not take pictures like I wanted to do.   I was trying to watch the wrapping and the moving and the placement of the games in the truck all at the same time.  I hope that I NEVER have to move again.  God only knows.

Nurbo and Rame thank you for the compliment.  The games are about an 7.5 in cosmetics but they all are in great working order.  If something breaks I try to fix it right away.  Even the 44 year old Golden Nugget 873 Bally is  paying out properly.  Several members of this list have museum quality slots.  I admire that but my collection is played pretty frequently by my elderly in-laws.  They give them a lot of joy. I have a few more casino related items to buy and possibly a video defender & Pac Man arcade and this will be it.  The invitation still stands to all to come on by and play till to cows come home.

Stay well group.

Thank you so much.  I know that I have more day behind me than I do in front of me.  I try to enjoy life and the many blessing such as great family friends and old gaming devices.

Happy Holidays
