Title: Installing Bally curve screen on v22/22
Post by: fewpheonix on June 30, 2017, 02:55:41 PM
i just received a Bally curved screen (for simulating reels) and am trying to install it in place of the v22 lower screen. I have successfully unhooked and removed video screen. I have mounted  and screwed in curve screen, but I am at a losss for where most of the cables attach to machine. The dvi and power connector seem to find and be the same as the video screen, but the vga input in back seems to have 3 rows of female connectors, where my vga cable only has two. The screen came with several cables that I have attached to back of curve screen, but I don't know where they connect inside of machine. Please help!

From my memory when I did this there is also -with the door open a small board with 2-screws that retain it in the right top side. Every thing else should be self explanatory Unless you are working on a frankenstien. After looking at this again I see the small board. You only use one video port on bottom. Top was probably dvi.  bottom vga and you may now need a display port to vga adapter. Don't know what all you have there.

Here are the two cables that came with screen. I can connect the vga type cable's small white clip harness to small board on back of curve screen. I can attach the 2 prong harness component to a cable that comes out of the corner of the back of curve screen - but I don't know where to plug vga style plug, and I can't see anywhere to plug others three white plugs on the cable with 4 attachments. If they are meant to get to backplane, they won't reach.

Ok,  so you have a alpha 2  22/22 -born that way and you are converting to curve-correct?.  Is the curve monitor powering up-?.  You may have other issues is why I ask.

post a pic of the front of your brain box-I won't get into details now.

Haven't tried powering up - didn't want to test until I thought I hooked up properly - but yes -converting regular v22/22 to curve.

Yes,  You don't have your cables correct.  Are you running a pro topper as well-Video?  Your pic was up-side down!.

Yes - I am running a pro topper and yes my photo was upside down - sorry - I know some of the v22 games run with vga switched, but... what should I change to make curve screen work? Like I said though, I haven't even got all the cables that came with screen attached and I haven't tried booting up yet.

Ok,  I-deck is touch secondary,  Lower monitor is touch Primary,  Topper goes to vga lower port-not on graphics card, Lower vga/dvi goes to graphic card and top goes to graphic card.  As long as you have the power to the monitor hooked up correctly you can power up without hurting anything and check what's going on.

So you think I should switch the vga cables for the touch screens - upper and lower - and switch the vga in the middle from upper and lower too. The v22 was working with it' s current setup and switching between games. Are you sure?

I reread your post and I don't think you were suggesting I switch all of these actually. If machine was working as v22/22 correctly before, do I need to rearrange any of these cable for testing curve screen?

The vga for I-deck also goes to lower primary or secondary-can't remember and vga for topper should go to lower secondary.  The only exception I seen when was running hammer head games on all the hook ups.  Are you going to run Code-Red on this?

The picture below shows the only 2 cables going into curved screen at the moment - the dvi cable that was originally attached to the lower video screen and what  I assume is a power harness - but not really sure - neither cable sent with the screen is attached and those were the cables I needed most help with - but do you suggest booting up with just dvi and harness attached?

Yes - plan to run Code Red. Sorry - I am not fully understanding the hookups you are talking about - I can see that the two left vgas on brainbox are touch screen vgas right? Middle vgas run video to top and lower screen I assume. Is the modified vga cable I received (with vga on one end and white plug on other) supposed to replace one of the vga touch screen inputs on brainbox?

Okay - so here is what I think I need to do, but would love confirmation. I just connected the 4 plug harness that came with screen into back of screen, attached old power harness to big plug - attached small 2 prong wire from corner of back of screen to one of the other prongs - now only a small 2 prong clip plug remains unaccounted for. Next, I propose replacing one of the touch screen vgas on brainbox with the vga white plug hybrid. What do you think and which touch screen vga (top or bottom) should I use.

Touch screen vga does not exist.  Do not get confused with touch cables and vga/dvi video cables.  I stated in my post where they needed to be to check things. If the top and lower monitors are not correct just switch the cables on the TOP video card!.

Sorry - what is top video card - I am new to most of these terms - although I have 4 slots and can change games and even button decks, I have yet to learn a lot of the lingo.

If you look at the top front of the brain box you see a card/ports with two dvi ports-That's your main upper and lower video output-everything else goes to the lower ports.  Fire it up!

Yep.- fired it up -was able to install game with operator key, but curve screen touch screen did not work and top screen displays "no signal". Have a screen on curved display, topper and ideck, but can't setup game without touchscreen working. Need to know where to plug in vga hybrid cable that plugs into board on back of curved screen.

Goes in backplane board. You must have just got this machine?. Also that's not a vga cable-it's a touch!.

Fired it up - was able to install game with operator's key, but touch screen wasn't working. When I rebooted, the curve screen comes on and so do topper and I deck, but no image on upper screen and with no working touchscreen, I cannot configure game. Where does vga/hybrid cable tha plugs into little board on back of curve screen get plugged into machine? It has a touchscreen symbol on it, so I assume it will allow curve screen to have touch features.

Fire it up - no signal on top screen and no touch response on curved screen, although it displays an image.
