Title: CEI Smart battery alternative
Post by: Crash0 on November 28, 2017, 08:52:25 PM
I was working on a CEI slot machine that had a bad battery, so I found one and ordered it. A month later I get the battery only to find it is dead.  :banghead:

Parts needed: An old smart battery or a DS1259 chip, CR2032 battery holder, CR2032 battery of course, and 2 small jumper wires.
Tools needed: Soldering Iron, heat gun, something to snip plastic (I used small wire cutters). small needle nose pliers. Something to secure the battery holder, glue ect...

Here is a way to work around dead smart battery problems.
1. You will need an old battery with the chip (this can be tricky part). If you have gotten a DS1259 chip you can skip these steps.
2. Cut away the plastic that surrounds the chip as close as possible to the chip.
3. Once you have done that, cut the chip leads that go to battery #2 and #7. Cut as close to battery as possible so you will have leads
    for soldering.
4. Next using a heat gun, or similar. to remove the plastic from the top of chip. (I used vise to hold plastic and needle nose pliers to lift
gently on chip till it came free
).

Figure out how you want to layout the battery. Cut and strip your wires to length
If you bought a chip make sure legs #2 and #7 are bent straight out from the side.( These will face the battery holder )
Tin the wire ends and the #2 and #7 pins, also tin the legs on the battery holder.
Solder the wire on #2 pin on chip to the Positive on the battery holder.
repeat by soldering wire to #7 pin to negative on the battery holder.
Plug your chip into the board, and fasten the battery holder to the board with glue or however you are going to do it.
Put your battery in and reinstall board into machine. Turn it on and clear the error ( mine was 2 turns of jackpot key)
That's it.

I 3D printed a holder similar to original battery. That presented a couple of more challenges, but it's a pretty clean look.
I found the DS-1259 chips and Data sheet here.

If interested in a holder PM me.

Last picture is the experiment to find out if it worked.
