Title: Bally Gamemaker V7000 no sound or extremely low
Post by: Slotace on March 24, 2019, 07:03:20 PM
Another issue, no sound or so faint sometimes cannot be heard- I checked the speaker, it reads good.  to check this volume control, I could use jumper leads to see if it goes full blast? it has 3 solder points, which ones would I jump? (if this is a good idea) - is there a way to check that little control for function? (other than that)  thanks much! I def. need sound!

Take your volume control knob and turn it all the way up and down a couple times to clean the contacts inside. This usually helps fix volume problems.

thanks! I tried that, still the same- I put a meter on it and it seems to be functional, when I turn the pod up and down the meter reading moves from one side to the next. - so it appears ok-? still, the volume is very low, can hardly hear it. The speaker tested good, i.e the ohms read about 8.  Any ideas of on the low volume, where to go next?

A new event, when I re-did the ram clear, it will not advance from Jurisdiction (will not save and advance)   the jurisdiction # advances but will not save it so I can continue- maybe I damaged the clear chip?  I followed the correct procedure and put all the dips on SW1 back.

FIXED! YAY! So much for checking a speaker with a meter and it still reads 8 ohms- the speaker was bad, ordered a new one, hooked it up and now have beautiful sound! thank you for your help!! :-)

Glad it's all working now!
Were there any tears in the cone of the speaker?

I just realized the words tear and tear... homographs! I hate those words... makes me think I spelled something wrong.

Hey Mark- no, the speaker on the outside looked great - everything I read about checking it was if it read 8 ohms it was good- not so in my case. I could hear sound but so faint hardly at all. What a difference sound makes!  Do you know anything about the deluxe sound feature, it requires a separate added board?  just curious. I saw that option on a dip switch setting but read somewhere it requires add hardware. Wonder if it works on all games if so? The audio is pretty basic on the standard games, all the same.  1980's technology versus 2019! love the new HD gamemaker dual screens but $$$. thanks!
