Title: Bally 1088 EM pay out problems
Post by: JZ on August 27, 2022, 10:32:34 AM
Working on a Bally EM 1088 that is not paying out correctly.
The first payout is correct.
If the first payout was 2 coins and the second payout is 2 no coins are paid.
If the first payout was 2 coins and the second payout is 5 - 3 coins are paid.
If the first payout was 2 coins and the second payout is 10 - 8 coins are paid.
I have cleaned all of the connections and contacts on the payout board and no change. After I reset the payout board by manually engaging the solenoid on the upper right rear the first payout is correct and then all payouts after are not. It would seem that the reset coil is not energizing after a payout.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you're right, the payout counter not resetting is the problem.   When that happens, you get the delta from previous pay when you get a higher pay.

on the 1088 base model, payout counter reset coil goes thru a payout counter "open at zero" switch with yellow (30) and orange/black (78-1) wires on it, and a reel mech B-3 switch with 78-1 and black/white wire 85-1.

85-1 goes to the payout counter reset coil.

the open-at-zero switch is on the ratchet/gear side of the payout counter and is operated by the reset pawl.  The pawl is locked above the ratchet when the unit is reset, and when the unit steps the first time the pawl flops down on the ratchet teeth and stays there to prevent the ratchet from turning backwards as the unit steps. [oops ... it's the switch near the zero stop bumper in front of the spiral cam]

reel mech B switches are the horizontal switches on the left side of the reel mech above the coin relay.  B-3 is probably the top switch in the stack.

if the win meter is resetting, then the payout counter open-at-zero switch is ok.

could also be plug connections for those wires on the reel mech or hopper unit.

schematic for the 1088 can be grabbed from https://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/

note there's lots of versions of the 1088.  The plate below the handle will tell you what the full model number is (which may be just 1088).  'course, sometimes the plate got swapped onto a different game to create a paper trail.  The payout counter reset circuit is likely the same on all the 1088 versions, so the base 1088 schematic would apply.

Thanks for all of the information. Should the win meter be reset after every payout, is is not. From what you have described the open-at-zero switch is probably the issue. Is the switch the one in the pic I included?

Thanks for the link and advice, a lot of good info.

After removing the payout assy I could tell the last pic i posted was not the open at zero sw. I did find it on the other side of the assy. the paw was not activating sw as it was stuck to the shaft. removed and cleaned and works as it should.

Thanks again!!!

oops, sorry.  The switch by the spiral cam is the traditional switch that disables reset of the payout counter ... and the win meter on games that have it.

your post #3 switches are the payout counter step-up arm switches.

the reset pawl switch I was babbling about in post #2 (should have orange/red and green/black wires) just turns on the winner paid light.
