Recently picked up '88 Players Edge (non plus). Its a 5 coin quarter, Draw Poker. It was in tilt mode when I got it. Screen showed 2 cards "hold", 50 credits, had flashing "call attendant", coin in 1, extra coin out, game over, restart.........it would not play. Hit any button and would get a "dink" sound thru speaker.....by any button I mean hold, self test, JP reset.....with NO affect on display or play mode......battery tested at 3.6volt......pulled u57 memory chip, grounded on metal for couple minutes.......restarted game, displays " call attendant, door open, restart"......self test switch, JP key turn, door closed & locked, coin inserted, had NO affect.......turned off & back on and display shows "call attendant" only & nothing changes that status (self test, JP reset, coin in, etc)......the mpu is a 75702600 rev F......top side of board looks good......bottom side does have several trace lines that show a little "blistering or wrinkling" like overheat........this unit does NOT have motherboard and wiring plugs directly into board......looking for some direction on next step

try this, turn off the power, press and hold in the white test button, now while holding the button in, turn on the machine and wait for a "DING", release the button and see what happens.

Maybe try removing all socketed chips from mpu, then reseat them back into their socket. Might have a flaky connection somewhere, causing cpu to lockup or go into runaway state.
-
Thank y'all for input.......I did the hold the white button while turning on quite a few times......no ding......no change in status.......later today I will pull, inspect, re-insert chips and see what happens......
-
I have pulled, inspected & re- inserted all removable chips ( color, mro, mgo, mbo,mxo,gmo,).....they appear to be aok and are seated properly......no change in machine status.........
-
FYI....wiring has been tampered with.....and no optics on door, etc
-
Remove the RAM chip and short all of its legs on a bare piece of metal for about 2 minutes.
That will clear any garbage in the RAM.
-
I did that previously, multiple times.....u57......are you saying it needs done again?
-
Those games didn't have door optics, just a single switch.
We have a tester for those boards if you want to send it in PM me.
-
If your power supply voltages are ok then I'd figure out if the mpu board is ok or not, either by trying another one or sending in yours as suggested.
-
I will check main power supply transformer voltages I think Sunday........I think those volt #'s will be on the transformer............did notice the smaller transformer on the mpu tray had 1 brown (burnt looking) on the white molex connector.......could that be an issue?.....I know it was on the Splus reel slot power supply molex harness
-
The burnt plug pin could be an issue. Try cleaning it and spreading it back out but also check the pin it mates to. I have encountered a problem with these pins where it looks shiny and new but the tin plating slips right off and underneath is a burnt copper pin.
-
I will tackle that tomorrow as well.....thank you
-
mpu tray transformer burnt plug pin has been inspected, widened for tighter fit, looks OK........power supply transformer voltages are 115vac, 29vac, 8.6vac..........not sure if those are normal/OK readings..........have also done another ram chip pull, shorted out on metal, multiple on & offs holding white test button in........no changes

PM me if you want to send it to our shop and have it checked out on our tester.
