Post by: Mizrachi on October 10, 2015, 08:37:28 PM
I"m hoping someone may be able to help me out with this issue.

I have a 1995 IGT machine and for some reason the games are not acting correctly (ONLY ALLOWING ME TO PLAY 1 GAME) and would love to get it fixed. I appreciate you time and patience to help me solve this issue..  THANKS!

I've attached some pictures below

Was this previously working, or did you get it this way?

I am not sure what you mean that it only allows you to play one game ??

Looking at the title of the post .... does it play one game and then the screen goes wonky/unreadable ?

With the screen messed up can you insert coins and play an un-readable game ??

More details would be great.

The PE+ usually has two chips for the game. A game chip and a program chip. Older games only used a combined program chip. The superboard you have can play both kinds. Then there are 4 graphics chips MGO, MRO, MBO, MXO and a Capx chip.

I'm wondering if this can be caused by a bad or wrong CAPX eprom on the mpu board? Also there are some jumpers on the mpu for selecting what size some of the eproms are, maybe someone moved a jumper to the wrong position? Other than the game menu being messed up does the game play ok with whatever game you can select?

If you can post a larger closeup photo of your mpu board the experts here could better tell you what you have and what your problem possibly is.  Also you can try looking over the mpu board closely, looking for battery corrosion or water damage that may be affecting how it works.

I enlarged your photos to make it easier to see them a little better but unfortunately the enlargement also reduces clarity. If you can tell us what is written on the 6 white labels on the back of the chips we can check what you have.

The CAP(X) only controls the color palette available to the game.  If all the graphics were there, but with wrong colors, that would be the suspect.  That's not the cause of the garbled graphics here.

Now we're cookin'.

See this thread for the likely solution to your issue:

It seems quite obvious it's the wrong CG chipset for the game.

Your pictures are insanely small so I couldn't read any info off the chips.  So if you could please provide the following info:

which CG chipset do you have, IE: the 4 chips in a row labeled something like this:

MRO
CG2233
03/07/96(4-256)
@ IGT  L96-0686

There will be MR0, MG0, MB0 & MX0

Then we'll need to know the program rom and DATA rom, which should be labeled something like this:

XM00007P PE+DATA
03/09/96(1-512)
(c)IGT L96-0737

XMP00002 PE+GAME
09/07/95(1-512)
@IGT L95-2183

This information is for a Multi Poker game set.

If you can provide that information we can better let you know what the problem might be.  But from the picture you're showing it's a multi-poker game with CG chipset that doesn't support the "select your game" menu / banner.

The answer is simple now...

The chip you have the "XMP00017" is a multi poker chip designed to work with a "wingboard" addon which your board doesn't have. The CG2159 set is a general poker graphics chip set.  The unknown chip in the "DATA" socket on the PCB might be a flashable ST 27C512 chip which would be programed with the single game you can play.  What you need to do, is to replace the XMP00017 with standard XP000xxx Poker Game chip.  This will limit you to being able to play the single game that's programmed into the chip in the DATA socket but it will fix the graphics issue.

There are multi poker chipsets that will work with your superboard WITHOUT the need for the wingboard.  However you'll need to swap out the 4 CG graphics roms, the DATA and PROGRAM roms and lastly you'll need a CAPX2174 which isn't the easiest to find.

Chances of finding a wingboard are very, very slim.  However, as BrianT mentioned above, you can indeed obtain a Multi Poker chipset for your board which will allow you to pick from five player-selectable games.  You can see most of the Multi Poker chipsets that were made at the following link.

http://newlifegames.net/igtbible/IGT%20Poker/Multi%20Poker.htm (http://newlifegames.net/igtbible/IGT%20Poker/Multi%20Poker.htm)

You'll need to post a WTB ("Want To Buy") post, or contact one of the vendors listed on the front page of the site to see if they have the chips you need.

The good news in all of this is that your machine is actually working normally and this is a pretty easy fix.
