I appreciate your help but thats not the IM port that the Programming cable plugs in to. I tried using that as a guide but to no avail.
The IM port is the 4 pin minifit molex on top of the printer that is only used for programming or graphics.

I appreciate the help, thats not the one.  Patriot and Ithaca want 100$ for a 3 dollar cable and all it is 4 fin molex to a RS232.

I wonder if it's different from the one "Stumpy" is talking about in this topic?

I wonder if you gave "Stumpy" your email addy, if he will help you with the pinouts he has that connects the com to a laptop?...>>>

It doesn't seem to be answers here on NLG on this Ithaca printer pinout question you have because I've been looking for quite a while without any luck.

Serial idle is high.   To send a bit, it goes to ground.     Can you take a voltmeter and see if you get any voltage readings on the 4 pin header?
That should tell you the serial level voltage you need to deal with and if you need a TTL adapter or if it is simply a connecter with rx/tx flipped.
The pin with positive voltage is your TX pin (if it isn't 24v)...   I'm expecting 3.3, 5, 12, 16...
??

Good afternoon, I have this scheme that has worked for me, I don't know if it's what you need, I'll leave it here just in case.
all the best

Pinout is correct.  😁

All you need, including pinouts and exact parts. You MUST use a USB to serial adapter with an FTDI chipset.

Video explaining connector and pinouts of the cable, and flashing the firmware.

Worked the first time for me.

Took some time, searching, even trial & error.  lol

Just glad I got it and could share it, as members here at NLG have helped me on so many occasions!  🙂

Good stuff sccarlso! :applause:
That's the sort of stuff I end up doing hee at work often.
The video explaining connector and pinouts of the cable, and flashing the firmware...did you make it?

Nope, not me.  I had the pinouts, but the video was very helpful to ensure the connections were correct!

Was glad to find it!  👍

Hello, taking advantage of the good information from the colleague, I have started testing the solution presented in the video at the link.
I have taken quite a while and I have not been able to print any test tickets.
I need some method to perform this operation to test my printers before installing on the machines.
Has anyone tried this method and made it work???
The cable did work for me prior to this message without a problem.
I use a DB9 serial port card, which I use to program the new firmware in the epic950.
That's why I'm going to the forum, in case someone can help me solve this,
Thank you and best regards

As long as the flash completed successfully.  You should be able to print a test ticket anytime you want by holding down the feed button without power, and connecting power.  Hold the button down until you hear it printing.

Doesn’t need to be connected to anything.  Just paper is loaded ok.

It should print a ticket with the firmware info, boot loader version, comm port speed, etc.

Every printer I’ve used behaves like this.

If it doesn’t, the only requirement to flash the 950 is it has to have boot loader 1.14 or higher (I think that’s the version).  It’s on the Ithica website.

If yours by coincidence had a lower boot loader, that has to be flashed to it.  Then the normal firmware update.

Thanks for your help. I do know how to get the test out of the printer. This is good. But it does not indicate that it will then connect you correctly to the machine or that it will enter programming mode correctly.
In the video it simulates the issuance of a ticket as from an outside SAS system. This is a very good option to verify the correct operation of the epic 950.
Anyway, thank you very much for your collaboration.

If you flash the right firmware it’ll work.

Something I missed!  Mine wouldn’t enter programming mode.  It wasn’t clear that you need to have the front cover up, and ALSO slide the back cover out a bit as well!  There’s a sensor there that has to be open.  😁

Then it went right into programming mode as in the video.  Manually print a ticket just to see current firmware.  Unplug power & connect the serial cable on top.  Lift the front lid, and slide the back out just a bit. About an inch.  And you can put it in programming mode.  And do a comm test with the flash app.  If it fails, check com port and port speed on your PC.

But once you get a good response you can flash it.  It will indicate it completed.

If it doesn’t print a ticket right when done.  Just unplug everything.  Close the lid and slide the back in.  Then do a ticket print by pressing down the feed button and plugging in power.  Then it will and you’ll see the new firmware listed as compared to the test ticket printed before flashing it.

You know it’s good if it changed.  And you can put it back in the machine.

I had a USB/Netplex model that wasn’t for IGT AVP..  But once flashed I could just plug in USB & power without mounting it.  Powered on my AVP. No errors and I could do a test print from the AVP diagnostic menu.  So I knew it was good to go.  👍
