A Great Day to All. I have an S+ that’s acting very strange when I try to insert a bill into the WBA-12/13 validator. Once the bill starts to feed into the transport, the bezel lamps, start flickering and it kicks the bill out. If there’s credits built up, it will also flicker the “Bet One Credit” and “Insert coins” lamps as well.
It’s got to be board related because I put another S+ board in it and it accepts the bills fine. Bad Caps somewhere? Any suggestions would be appreciated, TU.

Is it taking in the bill entirely, holding it for a few seconds to flash those lamps, then rejecting it?
If so, the protocol on the bill validator may not match the protocol called for by the GAME ("SP") chip.
-
Yes, that’s exactly what it’s doing. The validator is an upgraded One that I purchased. I will try an original validator as well and see if anything changes, Thank You.
-
Can I purchase a different “SP” chip that will work with the upgraded validator?
-
What version is your WBA? Should be 3.75 weather flashed or eprom.
Most units have both protocol in the software, I forget what switch you flip on the wba, but it will switch between 022 and 023 protocols. Or determine what SP chips you have and research which one works, then replace it
Be advised that you have a haywire machine, they use a special SP CHIP, so get one that will handle the protocol you need.
If it were me , I’d flip the switch on the WBA.
Hope this helps

Here’s some pictures of my validator and board chips. Also I found this “WBA” troubleshooting booklet in a machine back when. I don’t see anything about protocol switching. Any suggestions. I tried calling their customer service support, but it went to voicemail.

Forgot the pictures, Dah. I just tried the board in a S+ with a “DBV-200” same flickering!!!
-
Sounds like the flickering is coming from a flaky power supply??
You have the both ID's programmed in that chip.
Somewhere, there's instructions for the dips, to switch between ID022 and ID023....use ID023.
Jim said it best...just flip the dips...one of them is right. lol
Your SP605 TYPE 2 chip (That's for Haywire TYPE of games) ...look up the PSR for it in the System Files.
I knew the SP was old, but that Haywire chip was made in 1992!
What year is your cabinet plate?

In that flip guide there is a legend as to what function those 8 switches perform, one is marked I/F, that is the switch you flip,

From the JCM WBA Software Information sheet:
#1 Dip Switch
OFF Interface Selection ID-023
ON Interface Selection ID-022

TOPIC SOLVED!!! I moved Dipswitch #1 to ON and now machine accepts bills and flickering lights are gone. Thank You ALL SO MUCH FOR THE GUIDANCE.
One Note: When I tried it in the machine with the DBV-200 and wouldn’t work, I went back and it has an updated chip in it as well.

On the 200 head, switch 10 will change the IDO.

TU, That now works as well.
