Title: CEI /Cal Omega "Hopper Failure" error message
Post by: bkbargins4u on November 28, 2009, 12:08:20 PM

I have a Cal Omega video poker machine that after it pays out it gets a "hopper Failure" error message, but it pays out correctly.  It appears that the hopper reel advances too far causing the next quarter to stop under the coin counting roller.  The message clears when I take the quarter out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.    Thanks

It's been a long time sent i worked on a hopper.
To test it, remove it from the game and empty the coins out.

Try to move the pin wheel; if it moves freely then the hopper
motor drive pin is no longer trapped by the screws in the pin wheel.

If the pin wheel does not move, then the problem might be the brake on the back of the hopper motor (If it has one),intended to stop the wheel’s rotation quickly after the last coin is paid out.

The brake is often a metal plate on the end of the motor that is pulled to the motor when it is turned on, and released to drag & brake when turned off. In some cases, the entire motor armature moves lengthwise when activated or deactivated, to accomplish the same thing. If either of the rubbing surfaces is worn out, or if wear or dirt prevents the lengthwise movement,  the pin wheel can continue to rotate after the last coin, just enough to cause your problem.
