Title: Reel Touch Question
Post by: ianmcneil68 on May 14, 2017, 09:45:23 AM
Was Reel Touch something that came and went pretty fast? I have never seen a RT machine in my area. I also rarely see parts being put out there for sale. I've seen some cool titles online that I wouldn't mind having but if parts are an issue....

Reel Touch was put out by IGT when they were going to make the introduction of machines with LCDs as the primary screen for to show the reels. They wanted people to get the idea that you didn't need an actual spinning reel to play a slot machine. This was IGTs way to see if this was going to be accepted by the slot players.  In addition they were giving a taste of what was to come with the bonus games etc. Soon to follow were the Igames with no reels at all.
Reel Touch became a high maintenance game in the casinos typically from failure of the hard drives in the bonus box plus IGT had too many unique variations of chips, hard drives and top boxes that made trouble shooting them a real headache for the technitions. So they were only produced for about 4 or five years.
They are great games for the home user since they are not usually left on 24-7 and parts are still available.

Thanks, Rich. Couple more questions. Is the "touch" in reel touch literal? Is it actually a touch screen? Also, Visions came before RT, correct? Thanks for the info.

Yes, it is an interactive, touchscreen bonus round and yes, vision was it's predecessor

In my opinion, Denver Duck is the cats meow of the reel touch games.
