Title: Bally E-1209 Reel Reader Issues
Post by: packerfan444 on August 19, 2017, 08:53:14 PM
Greetings All,

I'm having a real issue with my 1209 reels. It started out as a free spinning tilt, oiled it up and that went away. But lately it seems like the reels lock up too quick after the handle is pulled,( they don't spin very long) and now the machine doesn't pay when the reels indicate a winner, (a cherry, 3 plums, etc.

I ran the reel reader test and get good indications occasionally, but now it's all outta wack. The manual says that during the reel test you can spin the reels individually by hand? I can only index the left side reel. the other 2 won't budge during the test.

Total Newbie to slot repair. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :thank_you:

Sounds like you may have a bad or weak kick or arm switch on the left side of the reel mech.
You can use test #3, input test, and manually pull the handle by pulling the release pin on top of the handle box and pulling the handle slowly looking for the Arm then Kick code numbers on the display.

For reel test you can grab each reel and rotate it forward slightly to see if the reel data changes. If it wont rotate at all then the round head metal piece in the back of the reel, the part that falls into the reel notch, may be jammed up.
It should have some spring to it, if not it needs to be lubed until it is springy.

Thanks so much for your help. I'm "playing" with it now. I just ran test 5 again after some oiling and see on the display  1. 0. 0. 0. . .

I tried again to rotate the reels but only the left one indexes and the display doesn't change. I'm going to try the input test and see what happens. The reel mechanism is still pretty gummy so I best get into it and give it a good cleaning and lube.

Thanks again. I'll keep you posted.
