Title: S+ Processor Board Repair
Post by: JethroP on January 01, 2021, 09:12:47 PM
I have a non-working processor board from S+.  It has a good set of SP and SS chips but the #3 reel does not lock up at power on.  When I received this board the SP chip was installed backwards.

I have repaired pinball MPU's and capable of board repair, IC removal, etc., but a newbie with slot machines.

Are there any technically able people on this forum that can walk me through testing or repair on this board?  The symptoms as I stated are the #3 reel doesn't lock up.  Board is 7550570.

BTW, I installed a working board in the game and the #3 reel works normally, so the problem is certainly with the processor board.

Check your pins behind the suspect reel.
Swap it with the 1st reel to see if the problem follows the reel.

I made a video on this once on my YouTube channel...you just need to change out the 3rd reel driver and the associated resistor...>>>

Thank you.  I changed out the U11 driver and that fixed that problem.
Now to fix the coin comparator problem.  Coins just pass through.  I'll start a new topic.  Thanks again for the help with the reel driver.

This topic is resolved.  After replacing the bad reel driver chip I installed the original SP and SS chips.  I had some concern about putting the SP chip back after finding it had been installed backwards (which may have contributed to burning up the reel driver).  But to my relief, the board booted fine and game is working 100% now. Also, the coin comparator problem I mentioned was resolved by turning the adjustment fully counterclockwise.

Normally you turn the potentiometer dial fully CCW, then turn it CW a quarter turn to set it.
