Post by: luvreno on September 23, 2014, 12:06:29 PM
I just got this reel touch machine & a IGT I game both have a problem,  I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew on this one, this machine was in a friends collection & he recently passed a way so I have nobody to ask how to fix this machine I'm a real novice.

Look at pic of the screen it said

Please enter cPU speed Cmos set up and remember to

You will need to hook up a keyboard to the top box computer to take care of this.

Things to Check, CPU should be a PIII 1000.
You need to also check the battery (Top Box) It's a 2032
If after all of these are found to be good you may want to plug in a keyboard and go though the CMOS settings. If you just enter and exit the CMOS you will no longer get the error message if all is good.
Also check the MPU batteries as they will affect the top box Motherboard

Sorry for the short reply was really rushed. As Lindam stated if all is okay enter the CMOS and exit and this should clear up the error. Let us know how it all works out. Great game to play.

No good news, I changed battery on top, checked CPU battery it's no good also, need to get a holder for battery  and solder to board .  I got the key board connected turned it on, nothin came up on upper screen, on the small screen on lefft main  door, it said system error,   I,m done for the night, I think I could screw up a anvil in a sand pile.   This is frustrating but I'm not giving up

You got the system error because you changed the MPU battery on the lower cabinet board. Opening the door will trigger an alarm. Using the jackpot reset key, turning it 3 times will bring up a message on the lower VFD display, follow it's instructions

I will go ahead and do that, when I replaced battery I noticed on the board a Vargas battery, it had a lot of white corrosion on it, can I remove it without any problems, I remember reading that it's really not necessary.

Post a picture or the model type of your MPU. It needs to be removed if it's corroded before it destroys the board. Whether it needs to be replaced depends on which MPU you have. The 500 series boards don't need it, bit the 1270 series do.

That's a 504 board, ditch the green battery. The acid leaking from that can wreck the traces for door optics recognition that run underneath it and ruin the board. After the battery is gone, clean the area with water and baking soda to neutralize the acid. Do not replace the battery

If within 7-8 seconds you don't hear the video BEEP from the top box, you have an issue either with the video or something stopping the video. CPU, Ram, power supply, bottom MPU. R/T's are a bear to work on til you get them figured out. I still get stumped on mine. It took me over 2 weeks to figure out that my top box problem was the power supply in the bottom next to the MPU.

After reading your post completely it appears you have NO issues with anything in the bottom.
If you had video B4 then look at ram....my be loose reseat or clean and reseat. check cpu fanbe sure if you've had fan off there's enough grease between heatsink and chip. make sure that if you've had the drive unplugged it is back correctly. Many of the drive plugs are missing the PIN BLOCK and can be mistakenly plugged in wrong. May fry the cable.

Lin,  You are correct.  I had seen so many diff. problems with these back in the day I was nearly Bald.  I did learn a lot from working on and diagnosing these.  These are very fun games when working with all the diff. titles.  I had 12 of these when they were hotter than a fire-cracker money wise-No one could fix them.  I fixed 10 and converted 2 and got out.  Ended up selling them for pennies on the dollars and won't touch one now with a 10ft pole-But that is just me.  Problamatic machines. Reminds me of some of the igt/ac coin games.  Denver Duck is one of the bigger titles but if you play it much,  It is just a never ending viedo game. Kids liked it more than me because of that. The top box monitor should beep when powered.

Will checking the top box I found out there is no cd in the CD player,  never checked it before just assumed it was in cd player.  I purchased the machine in a not working condition,   Anybody know where I can purchase a Denver duck  CD.

You only need the CD's if you're re-loading to a new drive.

Very good news!!!

I have found the main problem by accident, I always close the top box video screen monitor before turning on machine, I turned machine on with video screen monitor open, this time the monitor turned on & I was able to use keyboard to get her going.  It appears that the main wires that are covered going to upper power supply, where pinched and it apparently not getting power to monitor.  I have to be carefully when I close the monitor door and move wires so there not in a bind

My wife and I played it for about a hour, worked great, she hit the bonus and acted like a little kid.
It is a fun machine to play.

Now the rest of  the story !
When you turn machine off and restart it, boots up and goes to message on screen that is on my first post. I have to get out key board and start all over, it will go ahead and finish booting up and turn on.
Any ideas on this one ?

I want to thank every one that posted, without your help I never would have gotten this far .

Did you check the battery inside the top box CPU?

Check the battery in the top box one more time make sure it is good and installed correctly.
you should have to go into the CMOS one time using the keyboard.  Set the cmos to default and make sure you save the cmos settings when you exit. That should do it.

Glad everything works thanks to all the other members help also.

I love Denver Duck my wife likes to crack open the egg.

When you get the game in the ready to play mode, touch the egg in the bottom center of the touch screen twice to hatch the egg. It does nothing for game play but she loves to do it...I think it's a women thing because her mom likes to do it also.
