this will probably end up being a very long post, I will update it as more time and information warrant. I have been working on my first game, 1992 IGT Player Edge Plus Montana Choice video poker. Used on location in a Montana casino until around 2002, based on the state sticker on the side. Purchased for $100 as a afterthought while obtaining a pinball game. Being Montana jurisdiction, it had no hopper or coin payout provisions, all coins went directly to the drop bucket. The original door plate had no chute to send coins to a hopper, just a rectangular slot at the bottom for the printer paper to feed out. There is no diverter coil in the coin comparitor, a fixed metal link held the diverter plate back so all coins went down the front plastic guides and into the base stand. There was originally a large printer that used two roll of paper for customer receipt and internal rolled up audit. There is no "bet max credits" button on the front door, it is blanked off. There appears to be no provision for this button in the wiring harness. I found several wiring differences between what is shown in the IGT PE+ diagrams online and the actual wiring inside my game. Basically I had to rewire several thing to be like the official diagrams. I had the game software chips changed from Montana CG1209/CAP1144/MG0183 to PP0158/CAP904, it now plays "4 of a kind bonus poker" only. Still looking to get the multigame software XM00002P. I removed several items that would serve no purpose any longer, including the four coin meters, the progressive interface wiring, and printer wiring.
Here are some of the current modification to allow game play with current software:
1. The old printer slides in just like the hopper. I purchased a good used quarter hopper and had to modify the slide in connector. I was able to disconnect the four existing pins from printer connector J10 at the motherboard and reconnect them for hopper functions. When viewed from the front of the hopper connector, the upper left is "hopper full" inserted in J13 position 8; the upper right is "coin out" inserted in J13 position 9; the middle left continues to be the ground; the middle right becomes power to the coin out detector in J13 position 10. The lower left and right connections are 115 vac power to operate the old printer. I still have to purchase the solid state relay to start and stop the hopper motor when signals come from J13 positions 5 and 6.
2. The door open detect stymied me for several days. When doing input self tests, I could always get the input to change from 1 to 0 and back by opening and closing the bill validator add on box door. After reading all the posts in the IGT section, I found reference to self test input flickering rapidly between 1 and 0 as being normal. After doing tests and voltage reading on the optics themselves, I found them working correctly. I traced all the wires and found the door emitter powered as shown in the diagrams, but not the cabinet receiver. My optic receiver wires went across the top the monitor, down the left side with the meter wiring bundle and into the MPU housing on the top connector then directly to motherboard connector J1, pins 14B and 15A. These are labeled as switch 23 on the diagrams, purpose unknown. I cut these 2 wires, rerouted and spliced them into J13 wires 19 and 20. When I check the self test inputs screen now, closing the door caused the door input indication to rapidly alternate between 1 and 0. This rewiring allowed my game to reset and play normally. Looking at the diagram leads me to surmise that the 7 volts ac is being 1/2 wave rectified by the diode CR25 causing the door emitter to "flash" about 30 times per second or so. This is picked up by the cabinet optic receiver, allowing a pulsating current flow thru J13 pin 19. The MPU board decodes this pulsation as NORMAL and allows game operation. If the signal is always shorted on or opened off, the board decodes as DOOR OPEN. This provides better circuit monitoring and any type of wiring fault will cause the DOOR OPEN tilt. I just adjusted my drop door setting to NO and will keep the key locks secure. I really felt good when the first game played.
Thanks to all the prior posters, I needed the information you provided. I hope my post will help others also.
I still need to get the hopper relay installed and operational. I will add more later....trying to add pictures, internet being stubborn
1-30-2016 UPDATE = Hopper control relay installed and wired to J13 pin 5 and 6, ground, and 115 vac. It works!! Hopper passes self test by paying out 10 coins. Game play is much more enjoyable not having to open the door and rob the coin bucket so often. Now I need to keep a pile of quarters around until I get the external DBV programmed and functional. Still investigating the PLAY MAX CREDITS button installation.

Hi - the printer configuration for the PE+ is a very rare thing.
Can you send any pictures of the printer and any details - model etc, how it was connected, how it behaved on cash out etc.
How it was mounted (ie through the door - side mount glass etc).
-
What a good looking machine, good job on the work to it! :cool_thumb_up:
-
Here are photos of the TDC printer, having trouble with this post, will update again.
the original printer is as big as a coin hopper and slides in the same way. It uses the same 6 blade wire connector as the hopper, 115 vac on the bottom two wires, data communications on the top two pins. Easy to rewire for coin hopper installation. The printer uses 2 large rolls of paper, both being fed together thru the middle past the ink ribbon and dot matrix print head. The audit paper is rolled up on top spool, while the customer receipt goes out past the cutter bar, and thru the door into the coin tray. The cutter bar is energized by a large solenoid assembly. I never saw the printer in action, but it has a good sized circuit board mounted on the back plate which is probably monitoring several functions such as paper empty, jam, etc. Not sure if the MPU or printer kept track of the lifetime coin records. Anyway, if anyone wants these 2 printers, I would be willing to send them to you for just the price of USPS shipping. They are heavy and probably too large for the flat rate box.

2-6-2016 update:
1. Received the SET 038 chip today and reprogrammed the MPU to enable the bill validator. It was successful and the ancient JCM DBV-45-SU groaned to life and now accepts older style $1 and $5 bills. Yeah!
2. Received a set of new buttons with LED bulbs and installed them today. This took a lot longer that I expected, about 3 hours non stop. Lots of parts to remove for access and lots of tiny wires. I also cleaned the dirt and smoke residue from all the exposed surfaces. Turned a white rag nasty brown. My new buttons look great, nice and bright without the old scratches and burn marks. I kept the original legend plates including the 5 “REMOVE/RECALL†(hold) which are a pale yellow color. The wiring diagram I have may be incorrect in the numbering of the hold buttons, it shows 1,3,4,5,2 from top to bottom. My machine wiring color codes match up if the numbering is 1,2,3,4,5 from top to bottom. Since my game works correctly who knows.
The last project for this machine is getting the correct multi game program chip.

:applause:
You spent a lot of time and effort and it looks great so far.
Does it just play a single game now?
-
yes, it plays 4 of a kind bonus poker, with mpu chips PP0158 / CAP904 / CG2003 on a standard (non-super) PE+ board.
It's getting a lot of use from the wife and visitors, I checked the statistics page, over 8,000 hands dealt, no royal flush yet....
-
Congrats, nice looking machine. I had mine (different kind) 2½ years before I hit a Royal. They are way too fun.

.....
The last project for this machine is getting the correct multi game program chip.
.....
Will the multi-game chipsets work on a standard non-super mpu board?
I think a royal flush should happen about every 40,000 hands or so. But a lot of times people won't go for the royal when they have a "safe" hand, like this on Jacks of Better:
A,K,Q of clubs, with A diamonds and another card. People tend to keep the high pair (both aces) and discard the other 3 cards, instead of keeping the A,K,Q of clubs and playing for the royal. Not going for the royal on those opportunities will lengthen the time it takes to get one.
-
The super board is required for the multi game chipsets.
You should be able to pick up one relatively cheap.
The super board will work in your machine without any additional mods.
-
biggest win to date, over 15,000 hands played. 4 aces.
-
As far as I know there are two boards.
Super and non-super.
There is also a rare wing board - that works with the super board to allow 5 chips - that share the same capx and M?O sets to work as a multi-poker.
-
Based on my research from a few PSRs (and some actual chip sets) here is what I know about the wingboard sets:
XMP00007
XMP00011
XMP00017
All use CAPX2298 + CG2298 sets and at least XMP00017 can also use CG2426 which adds support Black Jack Bonus, Super Double Bonus and Triple Double Bonus.
XMP00014 uses CAPX2352 + CG2352 is an International set supporting International currency symbols
XMP00013
XMP00022
XMP00026
All use CAPX2346 + CG2346 and are Spanish sets
XMP00030 uses CAPX2298 + CG2451 and supports the additional games that CG2426 does but also adds support for Double Double Bonus Plus and maybe others.
Currently I'm not aware of a French version XMP000xx program rom or CG2xxx graphics sets but I suspect there is at least one version out there.
My documentation has missing info for XMP00015, XMP00016, XMP00019, XMP00021, XMP00023, XMP00027 through XMP00029 and anything higher then XMP00030 so there might be French version or other International versions ect....
Personally I have actually verified the above information for XMP00017, the 3 listed Spanish programs and XMP00030.
If anyone has any other information or XMP00014+CAPX2352+CG2352 please contact me via PM here, thanks!

biggest win to date, over 15,000 hands played. 4 aces.
pinballlarry1,
you may have so much fun with this game you don't need to get a super board with multigame software.
And why do you have a "1" at the end of your username, how many pinballlarry's can there be? :dancing_2:
-
I was originally pinballlarry back in the days of Commodore 64, AOL, and Netscape. After the @home network changed to Cox, it mangled up my old name and refused to let it migrate forward. So I just made a new name with the number 1 included. Been good ever since. I am buying a super board, but have to wait for the wife to play off over 1500 credits..... The machine has been very generous with 4 of a kind wins, including three times hitting 4 Aces. All good in Montana right now.

These machines are a lot of fun, and it is always good when the wife enjoys them too. I was teasing you a little about the username, none of my beeswax what anyone selects for a screen name, but thanks for the explanation, sounds like you've been around the internet a lap or two. :propeller:

I've enjoyed your post and also apologize for the hijacking!

Another update:
When paying out coins, many never bridged the gap to the door slot and coin tray. About 1/2 would end up in the bottom of the cabinet. After looking things over, I noticed that the hopper wire connector also acts as the positioning stop and has another set of holes in the base flange. After moving the connector to the other mounting holes, the hopper is positioned about 1/4" further forward and all the coins being paid out now travel successfully to the tray. Another difference of the original printer.
Installed the superboard tonight. Awesome having 5 choices that match the game glass. Also like the extra menu choices such as autobet which allows you to repeat the coin bet with just one button push. The old game board required multiple pushes of the credit button, finger got pretty tired betting 5 coins for an hour. Superboard home screen looks good, see photo.
Superboard is using Game chip XMP00002 / Data chip XM00003P / Cap X2174 / graphics CG2174
Not much else to do now but enjoy.......
-
That's great you got the superboard installed, did it also come with the multigame chips or did you have to order them separately?
Nice job on figuring out the hopper positioning, I'm gonna start referring some of the folks with PE+ questions to you! :odie:
-
I bought the superboard on eBay, it was complete with the game chips. I just had to transfer it to the aluminum carrier. Very easy install.
