Title: Tatung 17” monitor dead
Post by: 61Wally on January 22, 2022, 01:06:20 AM
I’ve looked through All the monitor posts, Not much on Tatung monitors. I have a Gamemaker and the monitor does nothing. Someone suggested the large 220mf cap and the large power transistor. Replaced both of them still dead. WOW, inflation has kicked up the price on those power transistors to a ridiculous price. Any suggestions about obtaining more information/ Knowledge on the Tatung!s?

You replaced Q603 and C19?
If I recall, C19 is not electrolytic, isn't it a bi-polar….it looks like an electrolytic but it is not.
Is it blowing the fuse?
There are 2 gray resistors that can potentially burn out, I would need to look at old posts but I think there is a repair log that talks about them. There aren’t that many, check them all. But if one is blown there is a reason why, they are not the cause.
Mine was doing the same thing but after replacing Q603 it started working. I also put a cap kit in because these Tatungs are known to have questionable/low temp capacitors, plus they are over 20 years old.
I found a note to check IC1 and C703
Then you get into IC101, the multi pin IC. I think there is a note on how to check for shorts on it.
Updates appreciated if you have any luck.

Thank You So much, I will start checking those parts out. In regards to the NONPOLAR CAP. couldn’t find anything out there even close, so I ended up making one up with some other caps. I will update the forum as to the latest news. Take Care.

I have a few spare caps, I had to buy 5. Let me know.
I also have the 8 pin if you have the same board…can you post a pic of your board?  14428?
Q603 is highly suspect. Mine didn’t test as shorted but I replaced it anyway and the board immediately started working.
I got my HOT at EW in Riverside.

Ok, I will replace that cap, it tested fine. I worked at EW for 9 years back when.

61Wally -
I'd lie to try to help you troubleshoot that problem but your model number is coming through as 17, then gibberish. May be problem on my end, but could you try sending that again so I can  find a schematic?
