Title: Multi-ball game not working
Post by: Randy0777 on December 17, 2016, 12:15:49 AM
I picked up a Monday Night Football game about 5 years ago for around 100$. Of course they said it worked when they moved it to the garage, in pieces. I figured 100, I'll try it. So, after replacing every board, and the Dotmatrix display, and replacing a few coils, it was working. Not to mention the hours I put in it  . I put more money in the game then it was worth, but it became a principal thing.  Now, jump ahead a few years. I moved, and I wanted to finish the basement before I started to bring games down. Monday Night Football was the last of 40+ games I decided were going in the basement... I had to take the backbox off to maneuver around the turns, had other things to do before I wanted to start that  :Scratch-Head:. I took a few pictures of where all the connections were in the box, finally brought it down, and would not play  :hissyfit:

I would get the start up speech, lights would come on, etc. Started checking all my connections, fuses, etc. Everything would check out good??? I was stumped! So, I had enough, I'll play with it later. The last 2 years I would play with it every few months (I have a lot of other projects ). Anyway, I ended up buying a soda fountain machine (as is  :24: ) off of a guy who only messes with pinballs. I'm thinking perfect, I'll pay him to look at it to see what's wrong with it since he was delivering the fountain. He spent about 40 mins looking it over, and came up with same conclusion I did ,WTF, cant figure it out.

Now its a few months later, and I was talking to a guy at work who hates pinballs (to much trouble to work on) , that has 300+ arcade games, yup,300+, he said does it have all the balls in it  :Scratch-Head: I told him I knew that I took them out when I move them, and not sure if I put them back in.  I came home and checked, yup, I put only ONE back in, so I start looking for more. I found a few old ones that have nicks in them, drop them in, turn on the game and it plays like a new game  :dancing_2:.

Anyway, the moral of my story is ... If you checked everything out and it still wont work, start over at the basics , and do not assume its "good".

Now, to get the Bally Kiss working LOL

Check your regulator on the power supply board. If it starts and then quits, there might be a breakdown under load. Also look for cold soldier joints where the pins mount to the boards. That too can cause that type of issues. Do the cold solder job first.
