Title: S+ Candle Rapid Flash
Post by: GoldMountain on January 22, 2024, 01:30:28 PM
My S+ was spitting out coins for a large payout when it died.  With my neandertal debugging skills I believe I had a failed EEPROM.  I replaced the EEPROM on the motherboard and the game is now playing but I cannot get the candle on top of the machine to stop rapid flashing.  How do I reset or clear this error?

The top half or bottom half is flashing rapidly?
You may need to perform a Clear to reset the EEPROMS.
There may be a stuck logic signal telling the MPU to make the candle flash...who knows?
In other words, running a clear will "marry" the MPU...>>> to the motherboard.

I doubt it'll help but here are some candle codes.

Thank you for the reply.  It is the bottom light that is rapidly flashing.  The top light is not illuminated, unless I depress the attendant call button.

How do I perform a "clear"?

Hmm...you may not need to clear anything.
Can you play a game, if you drop a coin in the slot?
Because, the candle will flash when you close the door until you complete one game.

I have played several+ games.  Coin in, reels spin, machine pays out and the whole time the bottom light on the candle continues to rapidly flash.

I don't know why the bottom half of the candle continues to flash after you've completed a game...it's not supposed to.
The reason why the bottom half flashes, is to let the casino know that the door was recently opened, and no one has played a game yet.
The top half of the candle is behaving correctly...it shouldn't be on at all, unless as you've said, when you push on the Service/Change button.

I really hate recommending the use of a Clear chip to you.
Let me ask you a couple of questions 1st.

Do you have a dollar bill validator in the machine?
If so, then using a clear chip will disable it, and you will need a SET chip to re-enable it.
So now you may need TWO chips.
Plus we'll have to tell you where to buy them at, and how to use them correctly - which involves you learning how to use the deck buttons to do some programming to get the machine running the way you have it now, and may STILL have a flashing candle.
Ther may be a lot more involved just to get the flashing candle to shut off.
Are you up for all that?

Or

could you just pull the bulb out from the candle, and just have fun playing the slot machine?  Your call...lol

I was hoping there would be another answer.  Even though I do NOT have a bill validator I won't go to the trouble of getting the chips.  I will get a clear chip if it's ever needed for something more important.  For now I'll just let the bulb burn out... and stop flashing.

Thank you for the help.

Hi GoldMountain,

The thread below might be the same issue you are experiencing.
The good news is it was resolved! You may want to read through the entire post, the link below takes you directly to the final resolved outcome.

Good luck, I hope this solves your problem!

The link twinfire posted was a good thought, but reading that thread it was a different situation. In that thread, inserted coins were not registering credits, so the person was never getting a completed paid game since the machine wasn't acknowledging coins that were being inserted.

For GoldMountain, it's likely either as Bunker suggested that a RAM clear might help, especially if this machine was not having this behavior before you changed out the EEPROM.

It's also possible, depending on the SP chip installed and its settings, that the machine is trying to tell you that it's detecting the drop door as open, even if you don't have a sensor or wiring in place for that. If the behavior only started after the EEPROM swap, however, I'd probably lean towards trying a clear first if you're comfortable with that process (https://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=16134.0).

The candle was not flashing before this recent failure but it was in the middle of making a large payout and the coin hopper emptied.  I refilled the hopper and it resumed paying out then stopped.  I cannot remember if the payout was complete when it died.  My first thought was that there was a unpaid payout trapped in it's memory but I don't know if that info resided on the EEPROM I replaced.
