Title: IGT S+ power supply not supplying power to motherboard
Post by: Flappa on April 12, 2024, 04:26:02 PM
I recently bought a IGT S+, Double 10 Times Pay, slot machine. When cmos chip is removed for 30 seconds and put back in and machine turned on It gives me the 61 error code. A "0" flashes for a second in the coins played window. When I push the white reset button, the code changes to 61 - 1 and it bings once. The BV does nothing and the machine does not recognize door open or closed.
Used Volt meter to check voltage at motherboard Molex and there was none. Then I unplugged the other end that goes into the power supply and with machine on checked voltage there and also was none. I'm thinking my power supply is no good, but wanted to run it by the group for assistance. The 3 fuses are the correct amps and good. If the consensus is that I need a new power supply. Can anyone point me in the right direction? TIA

I tried to add some pics, but even one pic is too large a file.

Don't worry about the BV yet....you must first get rid of the [61-1]

When you get to the [61-1], close the door, and turn the Jkpt/Reset key once.

Tell us what happens next.

As far as checking for voltages, you must tell us EXACTLY where you are putting the red and the black probes of you multimeter.

You must have voltage going to the motherboard, or your display would not be showing a [61-1].

To check the door emitter, turn on the power switch, and view the emitter with a digital camera.
You should see a blue-ish light flickering out of it.

To check the cabinet receiver optic, disconnect the 2-pin harness, put a multimeter on ohms, and read the two pins in the optic connector by shining a flashlight on and off of the receiving optic...the numbers on the multimeter will change if it's good.

Ok. After removing and replacing the cmos chip it will go from the 61 to 61-1 only once Until I remove and replace the chip again. All other times I turn on the machine and get the 61. Press the reset button, nothing happens. No click or anything. The lower candle light is flashing fast upper light, not on. When I power up the machine, the reels lock but they never spin during start up. After closing the door and turning the reset key the winner paid shows 76 credits shows 77 and 0 and 1 flashing in coins played. Each turn off the keys brings up different numbers, but the coins played numbers are in sequence up to 9. Then it goes back to 61 and will repeat that forever.

On the motherboard Molex I took my Volt meter black lead and put it on the farthest right green wire.
And then tested all the other wires 0 V. Then I put the black lead on the other green wire and touched all the other wires and again 0 V. I did the same at the power supply and again 0 V everywhere.

I figured that I couldn't get out of the 61 error code situation at least because it couldn't tell if the door was shut. So I wired the optics wires to a switch.

Try wiggling the that white power Molex on the motherboard slightly upwards, while watching the reel baskets for movement.
They should get "stiff".

When you say "0 V"...do you mean AC or DC?
Your multimeter should be set to VAC when checking.
Pull the plug off of the power supply and check the power supply plug on the box.
I'm only guessing you have the power supply box on the right-hand side of the cabinet uder the bill acceptor box?
Or is yours the older cabinet with the power transformer in the rear of the cabinet?

Look at this drawing I've attached to this Reply...>>>

Bunker, Thanks for your assistance so far, and
I did not have my meter set right when I last used it. I had it set to DCV instead of VAC. Actually, my meter says ACV. I do have power to the motherboard. Meter set to ACV 200, red probe going from left to right and black probe on metal I get, O-12.7, O/G-12.7, BRN/BLU-8.3, BLU-6.9, both greens are 0.

I have read a lot of posts about my situation and have done a bit of tinkering. I think I have figured out how to be able to add pictures on the site also.

Got the machine about 10 days ago and the bottom florescent light assembly had its wires cut and was sitting in the coin tray. ( Not a good sign) When plugged in, the bottom candle light flashes fast and the reels get stiff, and 61 lights up in the winner paid window, and a 0 flashes for a 1/2 second in coins played window. I believe I have got the door optics working because when door is open (put piece of plastic between optics that I've mounted on reel tray) and I push small white test switch,  the 61 goes out for a couple seconds and then comes back as 61. When I pull the piece of plastic out (door closed) and push the test switch, the 61 does not blink or have any change.... When I pull the cmos chip out for 30 seconds, put it back in, and power up the machine something flashes for a split second in the winner's paid window, but that's it, everything is blank. Seems like it can't handle what it's trying to do... Turn off the machine and back on and I get the 61. Push the test switch button and it changes to 61 1 with the ding. Shut the door, turn the reset key, and goes blank for a couple seconds and comes back with 61. It will only get to 61 1, one time after cmos chip taken out and replaced.

Button lights, and lower candle light, are the only lights that come on. Reels get stiff, but don't spin, DBV never comes on and coins just fall into coin tray. Have not been able to get any credits by pushing tiny white button on comparator board.

My best guess is that the door switches are not showing closed. I think I've got the main door optics working properly, (Although both optic red wires meter out at 22.2)but I think there's an issue with the cash can door switch/wiring/power. First thing I did was cut the cash can switch wires and twisted them together, but the main door optics wouldn't work properly like that. The cash can switch wires are blue/green and green/green. I have to make connection with the blue-green wire to the metal cabinet for my main door optics to work properly. With meter set to ACV 200 and red probe on blue-green wire, black probe on metal it reads 22.2. With red probe on green wire and black probe on metal, it reads 0. Traced the blue-green wire and it comes from the cabinet optics. The green wire goes to the motherboard and it has conductivity but reads 0 V. The pin it connects to shows 20 V.

That's all I've got for now, although that's plenty to chew on. Any help on what I should do to troubleshoot this further is much appreciated.
