Title: 2 Days in a row that I received broken or damaged item delivered by the PO..
Post by: Amechanic on January 19, 2019, 05:26:54 PM
I need to get this off my chest..  :soapbox_3:  I have had TWP packaged delivered to my house in the past 2 days, only to receive damaged or broken items. The first came from Gordy Nichol. It was a piece of belly  glass I was planning on using in my Monte Carlo while I was having a reproduction made. Upon opening the large box I grabbed the bubble wrapped glass only to hear the sound of death to a piece of glass. Then today I was awaiting a piece of chrome for down by the coin tray on my Monte Carlo. When I saw the box damage I expected the worst. Upon opening this box it was also confirmed, this piece was damaged in transit.

How many of you out there have been having problems getting parts in undamaged?? Both of these 2 boxes were delivered by the USPO.

It’s not just packing problems, but handling too. Both boxes looked like someone threw something else on top of them.

My 2 cents.  I shipped for years and still do on occasion.  It does not mater if it's USPS,Fed-Ex or UPS you have to pack esp. glass in a box that has room to properly pack it to arrive alive.  To this day on thousands of glass shipments only lost 2 and 3 monitors over a nearly 18 year period of that.  Do you think they care-NO,  Does the customer bitch when you over pack-YES.  With the price of shipping and what's expected these day's everyone is not happy with the services. I don't think you guy's sheet was packed that well to survive the torture of these companies.  My opinion.  Sheet I just sent some a week ago -packed to the hilt-Fed-Ex and arrived alive.   Attention to detail folks.

I've had boxes arrive like your 2nd picture but somehow survive...others didn't.

The piece of chrome was NOS. It still has the protective plastic on the outside edge. Now it’s just a POS. I do agree with the need to over package to protect glass and other items, but it would be nice if these shipping company’s didn’t treat every box like it was full of marshmallows that they can toss around.

Ive bought 2 hot air solder stations and both got to me
with the air pump flopping around inside from lack of
packing and USPS abuse of the package.

So sorry to hear about that irreparable damage. Shit like that does happen from time to time.

But I totally agree with Barry. You MUST pack stuff so it's nearly indestructible. I used to ship hand made ceramic pottery and delicate crystal wine glasses, vases etc. Stuff must be INDIVIDUALLY bubble wrapped and then spaced in boxes so that you can CRAM pelespan (styrofoam peanuts) in-between each item. And before you put the stuff in, you need to pad the bottom with a decent layer as well. Once the stuff is in, you CRAM pelespan all around. I use my hands and compress it together, then add more.
I put in enough on top that I have to put considerable weight on top to close the flaps and tape down.
If you packed it properly, the box should pass the "bounce text" and BOUNCE slightly when dropped. We did this test numerous times on different types of pottery and glass. I shipped this way for YEARS and had maybe two damage claims and that was when USPS (or UPS) literally placed a pallet of stuff on a box by accident. Now, that was unavoidable.
You must pack smarter than the intelligence of some of those moving the stuff. Otherwise it's a risk with mediocre packaging.

My local UPS outlet tells me I cannot put fragile stickers on my shipments because that is what terrorists do.
One of my customers sent me a USPS box with a board in it and included stamps for the return postage.
It was returned to me because stamps are a no no on packages because that is what terrorists do, there was a bit caution sticker from USPS about that.

That is a FAA regulation.

As i understand it they will take packages in person over the counter at the Post Office if you use stamps on that package.  You are under video surveillance at the PO.  There is a picture of you to identify the person mailing that package in case of foul play.

If your carrier takes your 'stamped' package or you drop it in a collection box it will be returned to sender with a 'love' letter/sticker attached.

If you print a label off the USPS web site [or use an approved Postal vendor] you can leave the package with your carrier or at a collection box.  There is a lot of information about you that follows that package from your creation of the label to delivery of that package.

So...

Packages go through a lot of equipment to get from point A to point B now. Really put some thought into your packing, the bounce test was mentioned. Yes there are bad employees, just watch you tube for proof. There are a lot more good employees than bad.  No one puts up you tubes of the good employees.
