Title: Making progress on my set of Bally V32's
Post by: RetroGamerJP on July 26, 2020, 12:01:37 PM
Big thanks to all who have helped me so far...

I was finally able to move everything down to the basement last night and my wife and I play our official first games. I still have some things on the to-do list but everything is coming together slowly but surely.

I had picked up (2) brand new 5 button panels on ebay so I swapped both new panels on the games yesterday. Cash spin was straight forward in just transferring over the button inserts. Roulette was a bit more work since it originally only needed the spin / service / collect buttons... however I wanted to have the option to play different games down the road in that cabinet so I installed the 5 button panel, blanked out the buttons I wouldn't need right away and made a new graphic for the larger spin button.

And here they are in there final home:

still have a few things to sort out:

1. Printer in Roulette gives me a communications error. Suspect it may not be the correct printer / firmware.
2. Sound Quality on Roulette is a bit distorted, I think the 6" speaker in the belly may need replacing.
3. Looking for Reel Money Belly Artwork to complete the cabinet.
4. Ordered TiTo kits that should arrive soon but need to get my Roulette printer issue sorted first.

More (novice) questions to follow...

Power up while pressing the feed button on the printer.  The printer will print a diagnostic page that will say what firmware is installed on it.

I like your custom inserts, what material did you use to make those up, did you print on an inkjet printer?  I made up some Generic Bally logos for the belly and printed them on photo paper.  It works fine for the most part, would love to get it professionally printed with correct translucency, so the black doesn't turn dark grey by the backlight and the red looks bright.

Thanks Rick - here is the printout from the self test ... what the best way for me to go about confirming I have the correct firmware? and if its incorrect, is it easy to flash the correct firmware? Or am I better to try and find a different printer that already has the correct version?

For the Roulette button inserts it is actual 3M satin vinyl that I cut out on my plotter...

For my missing Belly graphic on the other machine, I did order some color transparency film to do some tests but I will l most likely have to take to a sign shop to get properly printed.

Your printer has a bally compatible firmware.  So the error is due to something else.  What printer do you have selected in the cabinet setup option?

Really appreciate the insight here, thank you!  ...  I selected the future logic option in the setup ... followed the game clear / setup video here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBYCJSUZR9k (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBYCJSUZR9k)) ... I went through the process twice just in case I missed something but in both instances, I get the "Voucher printer com error" after setting everything else up. In the printer setup screen there is a test print button and when i press it i get nothing ... machine has California - tribal installed.

Here is a shot of my harness ... the green is what it currently connected. The other cables looked to be for the LED control and non essential options but perhaps I don't have it fully connected as required?

The others you don't need to connect.  You may just have a bad printer.  Does your other machine also have the same type printer?  You could move the printer over to see if the error goes away.

My other one has a working Ithica EPIC 950 ... was thinking about moving it over and going through the setup again to see if I could get that one to work in the other cabinet and if so, maybe trying to find another one of those. Do you see any reason that wouldn't work?

You can use either printer brand.

Thank you! ... I am going to attempt the swap and if I can get the 950 working in the other machine, I will track down another one of those printers. fingers crossed.

Rick - I was able to get my 950 working in my other machine so I ordered a duplicate one today. Thanks again for the guidance!
