Sure, so long as you have the superboard, all you have to do is purchase one of the multi-game chipsets and change out the chips.  I'd start by posting a WTB (Want To Buy) in the classifieds section (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?board=4.0) of the forum.

You can see a list of most of the available multi-game chipsets here:

http://newlifegames.net/igtbible/IGT%20Poker/Multi%20Poker.htm (http://newlifegames.net/igtbible/IGT%20Poker/Multi%20Poker.htm)

If your machine has a dollar bill validator, you will also need a SET chip to re-enable it after you change games.  The procedure for doing so is found here (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=334.0).

There is also a rather rare wing board available that you can put multiple (single game) chipsets into them and create your own multigame set
- the crux is that they must all use the same Mx0 and Capx sets for them to work together so you are limited as to what games you can use as multigame.

What chips did you replace ?

Game, Program, capx chip, mxo, mro, mgo, mbo
Make up a PE+ chip set

A couple of things - first if you swapped only your program and game chip it is possible that the graphics are not compatible. Alternatively if you did swap all make sure you put the right chips in the right spots. A MXO in a MGO spot will cause issues. Lastly it's possible that you have one bad chip. Leave all the known good graphics chips in place from your original game and just replace the program and game chip. The colours likely won't look right but it should prove the game chips are valid.

Please post all of the chip numbers from both games.

There are a few other things - such as if this is a non super board set of chips you won't have a program chip but if you left in your old program chip then there could be display issues. There are also two different memory sizes and there is a jumper on the mpu that can be moved. Before we Explore any of this, lets get the chip numbers posted and then we will know.

Cheers

then there is a chip missing from the set, no capx.    i'll ask the guy if he has it.  i was going to change just the data and game and see what happens. there are no numbers on the chips, homemade labels only.  also, my pe plus clear chip might be messed up. when i put it in, the hopper runs and the lights all blink, no screen.  what is the proper clear procedure for pe plus ? after the clear chip is in, what do you do? i used an s plus clear chip and got a screen saying the eeprom is clear but the bill validator was still enabled, so i dont really know if it cleared or not.  i think i have pics of the program chip from the multi game i used to have, ill post it.

thanks

Post a pic of the chips and we can let you know some information about them.  Are they original chips or copies?  Let us know to see if we can help with your situation.

copies, no labels except data, game, etc.

The CAPX chip only controls the colors, so even with the wrong CAPX in place, the game should work and you should be able to see all of the graphics -- some of them may just be the wrong colors.

You cannot just change the GAME and DATA chips to upgrade from a single game to a Multi Poker set.  You must also change the four CG chips (MR0, MG0, MB0, MX0).  If you did not change these, that would explain why your graphics were not displaying properly.

There is a jumper which may need to be changed if the old CG chips were 256k, and the new ones are 512k.  Without looking at my machine, according to Stolistic's PE+ emulation blog, the jumper is at E16/E17 on the board.  YMMV.

As far as clearing your machine, I have only once ever seen a PE+ that needed to be cleared between game changes, and that's because the EEPROM somehow got royally messed up.  Don't worry about using a CLEAR chip.  You may need to use a SET chip to re-enable your bill validator after a game change, but you can worry about that after you have the new game configured and working properly with coins.

If you can, post a picture of the jumbled screen if you still are getting that -- it may be helpful.

the cg chips are 27c64, so maybe they are just plain wrong. i'll take a look at the orig ones.  here are screen shots

thanks

looks the the whole upgrade thing is a bust. the orig cg chips are 128k, the replacements were 64k.  i put the old chips back, set it up and i'll be happy with it.  i did save the data from the suspect chips if anyone wants to play with it. maybe doubling up the images on 128k chips might work? who know, i'm not that into to try.  its a fun game as is, just wanted to make it a little better if i could

thanks to all

I think you're mixing terminology up a little bit.  First:

32k is 27C256 eprom chip which is common for CG roms but some are also 64k
64k is 27C512 eprom chip is always used for Superboard Program & DATA roms

I have NEVER seen 128K chip or file supported on an IGT PE Plus machine.

So if you're chips are 27C64 then they are 100% the wrong chip size!!!  Those would be 8K.  For a multi poker chipset without the wingboard you need:

One of the following game (program) roms programmed to a 27C512 chip:

   XMP00002
   XMP00003
   XMP00004
   XMP00006
   XMP00020
   XMP00024
   XMP00025

You also need a DATA rom programmed to a 27C512 chip:

XM00001P
XM00002P
XM00003P
XM00004P
XM00005P
XM00006P
XM00007P
XM00008P
XM00009P
XM00013P

Also XM00010P, XM00011P, XM00012P, XM00014P or XM00015P will also work, but I've never actually have seen those, just have verification that they exist via documentation of allowable sets in a specific Jurisdiction.

That being said, you will need a SPECIFIC CG rom set of 4 chips (MR0, MG0, MB0 & MX0) programmed into 27C256 chips:

XM00001P + CG2174
XM00002P + CG2174
XM00003P + CG2174
XM00004P + CG2196
XM00005P + CG2240
XM00006P + CG2174
XM00007P + CG2233
XM00008P + CG2228
XM00009P + Unknown
XM00013P + CG2296

For the other above listed sets, the correct CG rom set is unknown and unverified at this time.

LASTLY you will need a CAPX2174 (Philips N82S147N or compatible like the AMD AM27S29 BPROM) for correct colors.  The CAPX2174 is the required color chip for all the 5 in 1 Multi-Poker sets.

Hope that helps.

BrianT

PS: If you have a newer EPROM reader / burner it should be able to burn BPROMs.  Search ebay for the AMD version AM27S29 which would likely be the easiest BPROM (Bi-Poler ROM) to find.  Though they usually run anywhere from $10 (good deal) on up.

Here's a real world example of how IGT PE Plus chips are labeled for 2 Multi-Poker sets:

XM00001P PE+DATA
07/18/95(1-512)
@IGT  L95-1613

XMP00006 PE+GAME
07/25/96(1-512)
@IGT L96-2041

MXO
CG2174
07/26/95(4-256)
@ IGT  L95-1616

MBO
CG2174
07/26/95(4-256)
@ IGT  L95-1616

MGO
CG2174
07/26/95(4-256)
@ IGT  L95-1616

MRO
CG2174
07/26/95(4-256)
@ IGT  L95-1616

And this:

XM00007P PE+DATA
03/09/96(1-512)
(c)IGT L96-0737

XMP00002 PE+GAME
09/07/95(1-512)
@IGT L95-2183

MXO
CG2233
03/07/96(4-256)
@ IGT  L96-0686

MBO
CG2233
03/07/96(4-256)
@ IGT  L96-0686

MGO
CG2233
03/07/96(4-256)
@ IGT  L96-0686

MRO
CG2233
03/07/96(4-256)
@ IGT  L96-0686

As you can see IGT is kind enough to let you know which size ROM chip is need to copy the chip and how many you need!  So for GAME & DATA chips on the second line you see "(1-512)" which means you need one (1) 27C512 chip.  Then for the CG rom set on the 3rd line you see "(4-256)" which means you need four (4) 27C256 chips for CG set.  One 27C256 for the MR0, MB0, MG0 & MX0 rom.  Even on the Game King roms IGT did the same thing.  Here's a listing for Game King v4.3:

GME1  1 OF 2
G0002142
09/24/03 (2-80)
(c) 2003 IGT L03-2593

GME2  2 OF 2
G0002142
09/24/03 (2-80)
(c) 2003 IGT L03-2593

CG1    1 OF 4
C0000793
07/23/03 (2-080)
(C) 2003 IGT L02-1858

CG2    2 OF 4
C0000793
07/23/03 (2-080)
(C) 2003 IGT L02-1858

PLX1   3 OF 4
C0000793
07/23/03 (2-080)
(C) 2003 IGT L02-1858

PLX2   4 OF 4
C0000793
07/23/03 (2-080)
(C) 2003 IGT L02-1858

Optional Chips on the MULTIMEDIA LITE sound board:

SND1  1 OF 2
SWC00046
11/29/99 (2-080)
(C) 1999 IGT NV

SND2  2 OF 2
SWC00046
11/29/99 (2-080)
(C) 1999 IGT NV

BASE
M0000837
12/13/02 (1-4002)
(C) 2002 IGT L03-0238

This breaks down to GME1 & GME2 have the (2-80) so you need two 27C080 chips for those, CG1/2 again two 27C080 and the same with PXL1/2 and the SND1/2 on the sound board.  Now the base chip says 1-4002..... so yes... you guessed it you need one 27C4002 chip.  Game King v4.3 for the NJ jurisdiction is:

GME1  1 OF 2
G0001624
02/10/03 (2-80)
(c) 2003 IGT NJ

GME2  2 OF 2
G0001624
02/10/03 (2-80)
(c) 2003 IGT NJ

CG1    1 OF 4
C0000770
02/04/03 (2-040)
(C) 2003 IGT NJ

CG2    2 OF 4
C0000770
02/04/03 (2-040)
(C) 2003 IGT NJ

PLX1   3 OF 4
C0000770
02/04/03 (2-080)
(C) 2003 IGT NJ

PLX2   4 OF 4
C0000770
02/04/03 (2-080)
(C) 2003 IGT NJ

BASE
M0000811
02/13/03 (1-4002)
(C) 2003 IGT NJ

Again same format for chip size, only here the CG1/2 chips show 2-040 and that means two 27C040 chips for those.  Very easy to figure out.

So for the 5 in 1 Multi Poker chips you need two 27C512 chips and four 27C256 chips to copy a full set.  If you're backing up your rom chips or want to reprogram them the easiest way is buy some Winbond W27C512 chips (try eBay, they are cheap) for your Program & DATA roms.  These are electronically erasable and reprogrammable chips, I have seen original IGT game roms use this chip so I know it's compatible.  You can erase and reprogram as needed quickly and don't need a UV eraser like you do for standard EPROMs.  Sadly there is no 27C256 version.

Hope that helps in the future.
