Title: Megatouch Emulation
Post by: mateo107 on January 31, 2017, 08:50:27 PM
HI there,

I have a laptop that has a touchscreen on it.  Currently it's running windows and I'm trying to see if I can spin up a copy of the Megatouch Force 2010.5 software installation (ISO available online).  I'm not planning on hacking the software, but I'm just trying to test a few items.  The problem is, while VirtualBox sees the touchscreen, as soon as the Megatouch Linux distro boots, it does not support mouse input.

Does anyone know if there's a way to enable mouse in the Merit Megatouch setup installer?  Or a way to make sure the touch emulator from Virtual box gets loaded into the setup screen somehow?

Or, even smaller question, lets say you were trying to re-install Megatouch on a Megatouch device that's touchscreen wasn't working.  Is there a way to "TAB" or <ENTER> on the "touch button" to Continue?  Right now, it seems like TOUCH input is the only way to select buttons in the setup interface... but surely there must be a keyboard shortcut as well, yes?

Any help would be appreciated.

I was under the impression that the megatouch stuff required a security dongle?

It does to run permanently, but I should be able to load and test things without it.

Even without it, it should boot, (it's my understanding) but it won't let you play the games, or something like that.

My problem is, I can't seem to get a "click" inside of the VM to press the setup buttons in the software.  My touchscreen doesn't pass through, and it seems that mouse/cursor is disabled inside the setup file...

Surely there's got to be a way to enable it and/or use a keyboard shortcut to move forward...

VM's have very limited driver support other than the standard stuff.  VM's do not allow direct access to hardware, thus making driver installation for non-standard hardware impossible.  My experience with closed systems like the ones in the Microtouch and gaming hardware is that only OEM drivers are included in the releases, thus making it impossible to run on different hardware unless there was full emulation supported.  My best guess, in your case, is that there's probably no way to run it on a VM.  You may have a chance to run it as a standard OS on your hardware, provided the touchscreen and other input is replicated on your hardware platform.
