Title: bally e2000 code 41
Post by: windman on March 24, 2017, 07:15:11 PM
would this be a lube issue ?
machine will play for hours then throw code 41 a few times then play for a while again
another thing happening is if i win machine sits and waits for hopper to pay
wiggled fuse and connector no help
turn machine off and back on it pays out and can resume play
any ideas would be helpful
thanks in advance

Most likely a lube job but also go to test 5 and tap your first reel reader and see if the reading changes on your display.
Sometimes it is a dirty plug or a weak lamp on the reader.

As far as the hopper problem try re-seating the plugs on the top of your I/O board.
But it could also be capacitor C40 on the I/O board is weak or your hopper control board has a problem.
Someone here sells replacement hopper control boards without all of the security components Bally put in.
You may want to try one of those to see if the problem goes away.

You can try moving the reel reader control board from the first reel to the second or third reel to see it the problem moves with the reader. If it does I can rebuild it for you.

I tried swapping reader cards still code 41
if i do test 8 reels work fine but will only let me put coins in once
hit test back to 8 and spin again doesn't pay out in test 8 either, unless i  shut power off and back on then it pays
if i do hopper test spits out 10 coins as it should
would bad connections on the ribbon cable from i/o to mpu possibly be the culprit?

I would think there would be a lot more wrong if there was a bad pin on the ribbon cable.
IC U9 on the I/O board controls the hopper and turns on the reel reader bits, it is enabled by IC U10.
Try swapping U10 and U15, they are in sockets, and see if that makes any difference.

Is the #1 reel latching in or just free spinning?
If it is not it could be a bad or half waving triac that energizes the reel solenoid for reel 1.

soon as you pull handle reels all spin and errors out so no reels stop
but in test mode 8 reels spin and stop fine
will only play 1 time
hit test back to 8  play again spins and stops fine  over and over again works fine but just 1 time
never pays out in test 8
even without a win on reels have  to go back to test 8 again   to play again

This error can occur when you have a bad door switch.
When you go into test... say 5.... and close the door do you get a 50 code on the door and test 5 goes away?
Do you also have a door cam on the back of the key that opens your door, a round cam that actuates a switch?
Bypass it by cutting the two wires connected to it and tying them together.

checked the door close switch no voltage used to be 5 v there
chased all thru the wiring someone had a crimp connector that lost connection
now have 5 v at the switch and all thru the door coming from j3 pin 3 on i/o board
the other side of the switch a grey with green stripe goes to a molex connector and turns to ground after running  all thru the machine
still the same though
i did get it to play a couple times but it would only play once then i had to open door hit test 1 insert coin would light again i think that worked twice before it would just 41 out every time again
took a small flat blade and spread the pins in the molex's on reel mech
didn't help
still in test 8 spins fine every time
is it supposed to pay out in test 8?

No it will not payout in test 8.. That will simulate a pull with just the winning amout showing in the win meter.
Is your doors hinge switch working correctly? I check mine by putting the machine in a test mode. Then slowly close the door. You should see the machine come out of the test mode and display the 50 000 in the win meter.
