Title: Shipping CA to TX
Post by: Patentlaw on May 18, 2017, 02:57:24 PM

To all,

Going to ask all of the smart people on here on their preferred shipper.  In the past, I have had great results with a shipper out of North Carolina, but that shipper only takes goods from the Miss River to the East.  I have seen some machines for sale in Central California and may make a deal on them if I can get a good shipper.

From reviewing past posts on here, people are very concerned with glass item breakage.  Who has found a successful shipper that goes between Central California and Houston Texas?

Thanks in advance.

I have had good luck using WWW.USHIP.COM (http://WWW.USHIP.COM) - you place an ad with the items you are shipping - time frame - you get bids from independant shippers (there is a feedback system).

I had a machine shipped to me on R & L Carriers, it arrived just fine. But I have seen negative comments about other people's experience with them. I think a lot depends on how well the machine is packaged by the place that ships it to you, if they use a crate or if on a pallet do they wrap it well, etc. This is one of the difficult things about buying a machine, but if it is insured and something happens then hopefully the seller will handle the claim.

I'll echo what GOS said, there is a website called uShip that helps connect shippers to customers. The individual guys that do the delivering will bid on your shipping request, they have ratings (sort of like ebay) from previous customers. I've had a couple of arcade games delivered that way, each time worked out well.

There was a very popular shipping company that many people endorsed years ago, the contact person was named Michelle. I don't remember if it was NAVL (North American ValnLines) or something else. But they got pretty expensive to use.

I wonder what shipping method IGT or Bally uses to ship new machines to the casinos nationwide when they are ordered?

If you buy a machine from a slot machine resell company they may already have a trucking company they deal with exclusively and you won't get a choice on how it is shipped.

commercial trucking companies have a free reign on what they do - First of all - there is NO INSURANCE offered by the trucking companies for USED EQUIPMENT - so no matter how well you pack them - truckers have no incentive to protect the shipment - just get it there.  Next - you have to palletize to strick size limits - cannot put a machine in the middle of a large pallet - they surcharge the hell out of you - and then there is the CERTIFIED WEIGHT game - you ship a 200 pound machine on a 40 pound pallet and then you get an upcharge (twice the original quote) based on the weight the truck company gets on their CERTIFIED SCALE!! and you lose.  I know I am not alone with other shippers - these are the rules we live by when we ship - no protection - JIMMY HOFFA is still alive and well.
