Title: Protocol offline error and bill comm error on Alpha
Post by: BALLIGATOR on December 09, 2017, 10:06:12 AM
Hi,

Before I use my hammer to destroy my 2 Alphas, could anyone help me out start these machines please?

Both games are Black Gold Wild, just removed from a casino.

I cleared them both, set up the progressives properly but everytime I get  a Protocol offline error and a bill comm error.  Both have a UBa BAcceptor.

When I select JCM, the BV do not cycle , they do when I turn the machines on...

In the end I have a Game disabled error.   What am I missing?  Thanksss

Stuff removed from casinos can sometimes have a hodge podge of parts.  Your uba's may not be flashed to work with Bally, you can download the jcm utility and connect the validator to your pc with a usb cable and see what software is flashed on the unit.  It needs to be IDO03 for bally.  As far as the protocol offline error, are you setting the progressive using the internal controller?  There are multiple types of progressive controllers for the alphas.  You should choose the internal type if it is an alpha 1.

I chose Internal as regards the progressive... I must miss something somewhere.

I will post some pictures of what I removed from the inside of the machine, something like a mikhon board , which I guess is of no longer use.

I will download the JCM utility as you advised me to do and let you know

Thanks for posting

Oh, wait, these are not alpha elites?  Do they have the lcd on the top or below the reels?  If it's below the reels, the only way to configure progressive is to use the mikohn.  If it has the LCD, on the top and it displays the paytable there (as opposed to a piece of glass or plexy) then you can use internal controller.

The JCM toolsuite:

Hey,

Thanks for chiming in.

I think mine is an ordinary Alpha but take a look at the pictures I have made of the stuff I found inside.  The machines were for sure working with a mikhon...

A picture of the cards I use    The one below is the clear card, it is certainly a copy so we don't know the reference...

The Mikohn stuff is local area progressive.  It requires a central controller to drive it.  Post a picture of your machine.  You could probably get a mikohn 2A and get the progressive going.  It will probably require a whole setup (power supply, mikohn 2A controller, cables, and display).  You could also probably run the game without the progressive enabled.

Hey,

A friend of mine came today with a board coming from his Alpha, we tested it with my programs inside and it worked fine. He came with his bill acptor as well and everything was fine.

My board is more recent, I can tell from what is written on it. Could you take a look at the picture and let me know what the difference is?   When we tested with my board it showed PROTOCOL OFFLINE...   Thanks

I can't read the bios on version, on what I assume is your mpu board (the one on the top?).  I bet if you swap the bios chip and maybe the sjur (not sure which one you have since it is covered with jurisdictional tape), it will work fine.

I don't know what the missing chips are.  I will have to look at my MPU's to see which versions I have.  Post a picture that shows the labels clearly visible so I can tell what version of the mpu you have.
