Title: Slot owners: how do you gamble on "real" slots?
Post by: smoothgrh on February 08, 2018, 01:31:35 PM
I'm curious about how slot owners gamble on slot machines in casinos?

After a big hit at home (say, a 25x win), I take a break from my game and savor it for awhile.

In a real casino, I'd probably take a LONG break and savor the winning feeling. Maybe walk around, see what's going on, enjoy a snack or drink.

What would you do? How does knowing the odds and outcome patterns affect the way you play?

I play less actually, knowing that is a losing proposition.  Most of my time in a casino now is looking at the games to see which one I'm going to start looking to buy.  I usually only play the game to try it out and see if it is something I would enjoy to have.  And I also play the games I will never be able to play at home because of it's requirements.

I have quite a few slots in my shop at home and they are entertainment. I play the same at the casino. I know the odds going in and with the RNG it is totally luck if you win a big pay out. I play what I can afford to loose and hope I play long enough to get a few drinks in me. Off to Las Vegas for son's bachelor party week from today.

Mostly minimum bets, on occasion I go max for the green machine ($5 flavor). With my main job and hobby putting me inside machines all day. I don't need too much craziness.  :fryingpan:

Just a point to state they are all "real slots" the ones in your home just have no payback  :drool04:
but we know what you meant....

I put $20 into Megabucks before retiring for the night. Otherwise I play Black Jack.

I was wondering if anyone would take offense to my "real" wording!  :rotfl:

Thanks for the replies! I haven't had a long slot session since becoming a owner of "modern" slots, but I do know that the games have their characteristics based on the symbols, and that they run in streaks. I'm willing to risk my small entertainment budget on slots/video poker, and am happy to claim small wins from the machines. One day, I'll hit a big one—either at home or in the casino! Let's hope it's the latter first!

No "real" offense taken !!!

Video poker has an element of skill..... and based on the paytable you can figure out the casino hold.
Slots leave you in the dark.

In Vegas the slots tend to be a bit more loose than places like West Virginia, Native casinos (rumored to be in the 75% range). Anytime your the only casino in the area you can count on the %% payback to be lower. The Nevada Game Book only goes down to about 85% but there are other jurisdictions....for interest sake you can take a look at the IGT S+ game bible (home page, Right hand side) and see the available %% for the chips offered in the Nevada area. Due to the hurdle the S2000, AVP etc tend to recycle these games and percentages rather than going through re-certification for these older themes.

There are more professionals playing video poker than blackjack these days. In particular they use the casino promotions against them. IE Progressive jackpots increase the %% payback for the player to > 100%. Often you can get a 2x to 5x Royal multiplier on certain days. Points earned during play can be used for free play.... Then there are drinks, rooms and buffets.

We have many casinos where I am-All Class 3 .  Been in and out of them for years.  They will have a bank of say-5-10 of the same thing-guess what the percentages are set higher on a couple of them to lure folks in.  Trial and error--I know exactly where to go for my best odds on slots--It cost me yes to learn this but have won many nice jackpots from the work -and from the pockets!.   Home Machines-same way -I set them all at the highest payback possible.

Based on what I’ve learned from my
Home machines - payout percentage
Doesn’t matter at all

I simply go to the casino with 10k and sit at a
Single Machine until I hit for above what
I have started with.    Can’t loose

Play max bet until you get a hit above start point.

Done.

Much less!
Before I owned any slots, I'd play Top Dollar and Haywire all the time. I never was a huge gambler but I did pump in close to $100 (still sounds a lot) or more and lose it all. However, I did win $400 twice on the same Haywire at the Mirage and I won over $700 in at a casino in Tahoe years ago. STILL in the long run of my gaming, the house usually won of course.
After owning slots...
The last time I was in Las Vegas about 6 years ago, I gambled a whopping $12 and I was done.
Last time in Laughlin, I think I gambled around $20 but played video poker and had much more fun, since the play time was longer. But after that money was gone, I was done.
I'm afraid to even look in a casino next time I'm near one since they're transforming the slots to even more unrecognizable machines tailored to the millennials and "themed" to what ever game or show they play or watch on their iPhone 10's.

I had to claim/fill out 7 tax deductions from jackpots last year here-1199.00 or above.  Biggest one was 7500.00  rest were all mostly 2-3k range.  Helps to play 50 cent and dollar-Just saying--- one the 7500 on 5 dollar.  As a matter of fact me and the wife are getting ready to go play all our free play, gamble, eat and get a suite room if we want.---All on them.  It's ALL Luck--- :Tongue_Out: .

As I was saying-Just my experience.  Went to 1 casino the night of my post, Stayed in suite, food and the biggest thing I won that night was 800 bucks,  After all said and done of numerous hours of gambling and tips/etc. came out 300 Down.  Not Bad for a Lot of entertainment and thrills.  Here's a pick of this last Friday-50-cent-max bet.   I play the heck out of the old school when I I can get to them.  I must ADD my wife was with me as well so that contributed to expenses.   :fryingpan:

Thanks for all the responses!

As we all know, in the short run, the house hold % can swing wildly in the negative direction of the theoretical hold! Still, I would play casino slots only for fun and visual/aural entertainment with the hopes to get short-term >100% yield—i.e. lucky!

I do play video poker with good paytables for "real" as the game with a greater expectation of winning, but I know the luck can turn cold. So, my casino trips usually involve several kinds of entertainment, in addition to the machines/tables.

I'll make the big wagers in my game room!
