I have a Bally's single payline, 3 reel blazing 7 machine, 6000 series I believe. The bill acceptor will not light up. It worked fine a week ago and for the 3 years I've had it. It is not the acceptor itself.....I have a known good spare and I tried that one too and same result, it will not light up. No error codes. The machine plays normally. Any advice? Thank you.

Check the plug at the back of the of the slide. The plastic becomes very brittle over time. If you push the B/V in to hard or fast the socket can break from the mount.

I looked at the rear plug carefully. Its fine, no bent or broken pins and mates up with the BV perfectly.

Check the plug from bill accepter to the backplane and also the coin mech switch must be up on the front of mpu.

Yes.....I checked the connector from the BV to the backplane, its fine. In fact, I've reseated every connector in the machine several times. Every pin and receptacle in all connections look perfect.

As asked earlier, is the coin mech switch on the MPU in the up position? Can you post pics of your machine and BV?

Yes, the switch is in the up position.....it always has been. When I used the machine a week ago, it was perfect...as it always has been since I bought it. 3 days ago all I did was turn it on and that's when the problem started. The door was not opened, nothing was touched, I just simply turned it on and that's when this problem came up. How can this possibly happen just from turning it on?

I'm thinking that a component on the MPU has gone bad, possibly one of the many IC's. There must be some part in there that tells the BV to "power up". I don't not have a schematic of course, I don't know where to get one either. If I did have one, I could probably figure out which component(s) tell the BV to turn on. I've been a tech for 35+ years but slot machines are not my specialty of course....satellite TV is. I'm wondering if there is a command I can the machine (door open programming) to re-initialize the BV. Suggestions anyone?

You mentioned earlier that you think you have a 6000? Is it in fact a 6000 or 5500?

As luck would have it, the machine is positioned in such a way that I can't read the metal tag on the side. But a tag on the inside says Model #S63U3L6F4. Mfg. date is 2003. It is a 3 reel, single payline blazing 7. A fairly common machine I've seen in many many casino's.

There is a BV comm chip on the board that I have seen go bad but it could also be the +12V output on your power supply is low.

Excellent, now we're getting somewhere. The +12 supply is right at 12 volts, measured on the backplane, lower left side. The other supplies are fine too. Geez, I sure wish I knew what U designation that comm chip is. Any ideas?

On that topic, I've thought about re-seating the IC's on the board. A lot are on sockets. In other electronic filled boards, I've done that in the past with mixed results. I hesitate doing that with this board only because the sockets get brittle with age, due to heat etc. But desperate times call for desperate measures sometimes, ha.
