Title: S2000 Coin Comparitor problem with about 50% of coin retuning to coin tray?
Post by: Amechanic on February 23, 2018, 11:53:45 AM
I have a machine that's being a pain in the butt. I've tried 3 different CC-16 comparitors, only to have the same problem. About 50% of the time the quarters are returned to the coin tray. You can pick up the coin that was rejected and try it again only to have the game take it? The sensitivity adjustment is turned down on the comparitor boards. Can a faulty coin optics board be causing this, or is this there an alignment problem from the coin head to the comparitor? I figure if it's coin optics related or coin guide, which this one is a quarter guide, the coins would be falling into the hopper and not being rejected back to the coin tray..

if coins that are rejected are going to the tray then they are not going through the coin optics.  Are you using coins quarters or tokens?  I had a similar problem where the customer had several different tokens mixed together.

The coin bypasses the coin in optics when rejected so I wouldn't think that the optics are the problem.

He's using quarters. We tried different sample coins, but always had the same problem.

Do you have it set that extra coins will go to credits? if not it would then only take a number equal to the max bet.

Yes it is.. Sometimes it won't take the first few coins, then the next 10-12 without a problem. This is what's so confusing?

Gary, did you try reseating the Molex connector on comparitor  harness?

Not the large one where the coin harness attaches to the door wiring. I was thinking of trying a different harness. I want to pull the coin head and mounting bracket to see if things are straight.

Yes. The harness that goes from the comparitor and coin optics to the door  harness .

Gary,  do the CC-16 work in another machine?  the setting should be full ccw.  the one and only purpose of the cc-16 is to accept any metal object that is comparable to the metal sample placed in the sample holder!!!
chances of three comparitors bad, possible, but not likely.
you can measure the voltage on pins 5-6 of the comp.  should read 13 vdc.

the only other signal that would shut off the comp is the enable on pin 1 ( orange/violet)

all these signals pass through the door I/O   lockout signal is on pin 22c of the I/O.  this could be a source of the problem??

the other potential problem could be the door optics, if they are intermittent, then that would disable the cc-16 as well.

Thanks Jim. I was going to take a different wiring harness for the comparitor and try it. All these CC16 units were tested before I built out this game for resale. I figured the optic for the door as good or the game wouldn't play at all. I will take a different door IO with me when I return to the game this week. Thanks for your input.

Did you get my email I sent out the other day?
