Title: Need help with dead WBA BA
Post by: crackerjack222 on April 08, 2023, 05:50:24 PM
Ok, I have a Game King with a dead WBA 12/13-SS Bill acceptor.  I have had this machine in my game room for 7 years, always powered on except for brief power failures.  I replaced the monitor with a new Ceronix flat panel 5 years ago.  Other than that, I have had no trouble with it.  My wife plays it almost every day.

So now, it will not accept bills.  I have another WBA BA module that looks the same but with a different part no.  It also will not accept bills but I have never tried it before this so don't even know if it is good.   Both will cycle the gears on power up but the "Ready Light" does not come on in the bill slot.   I have tried the test procedure mentioned in the first post here (dip switches 1,2,3,8 down then after power up, flip 8 up).  Neither BA will cycle using this test.  I see two red led's next to the dip switch that are rapidly cycling on/off.  BTW, it had been working with all dip switches in OFF  (up) position.  I don't see any bent or missing pins in the multi-pin connector at the rear of the WBA module although one pin on the end is slightly recessed; I assume to avoid placing power on until the other pins are engaged when hot switching it.

I have tried to do some other troubleshooting but frankly I don't know what I am doing.    When I go to SETUP, then MACHINE OPTIONS, then BILL VALIDATOR OPTIONS, then CLEAR BILL VALIDATOR  CRC MISMATCH,  I get "BILL VALIDATOR IS NOT READY, AN ERROR MAY EXIST".

Also, the coin slot does not accept coins.  I have a nickel in the comparator but no workee.  The machine would accept nickels in the past.  Don't really care if this works or not.

I also went into DIAGNOSTICS, then INPUTS AND OUTPUTS TEST,  there I get all  "0"'S except COIN-IN 1(A) and COIN-IN 2 (3, SWITCH)  which are both (1).    On next page all outputs are "0".   On CABINET I/O TEST  I get all "0" except COIN OUT and METER DISCONNECT, which are both "1".    On PROCESSOR BOARD  I/O TEST  I get all "1" except COIN DROP DOOR which alternates 0/1, and BILL DROP DOOR which alternates 0/1,  on POWER SUPPLY PULSE which alternates 0/1,   and LOW BATTERY 2  which is steady "0".    It also shows MAIN DOOR  "0" but then I had the door open.

At this point I don't know what to do next.  I saw another post where replacing a battery solved a similar problem.  After seven years that may be a good option to try if I knew where that battery is located.  The Mother Board ????  I have not pulled it yet to look for a battery.  I can solder if that is required to replace it and I have and know how to use a VOM.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  My wife has been bugging me for a week to get this thing fixed. :drool04:

The battery is on the mpu board just below the monitor.  Be sure to turn machine off before sliding it out.  It may also have a green varta battery that needs to be removed.  Post a pic of the mpu board if you can.

The only battery I saw on the MPU board is a CR2032.  It measured 2.91v so I replaced it with a new one that measured 3.3v.  The only change I have seen is that the two leds above the dip switches on the BA are now on steady.  The BA cycles the gears when I plug it in but I still do not get the white "ready" lite and it will not accept bills.
I again tried the test using the 1,2,3,8 dip switch and it did not pass the test.

Is there any one I can send this BA to that can test it and repair or exchange it if faulty?

I have attached a photo of the MPU.  (I hope it posts)

I sent you a PM about servicing your BA.

I just want to give a shout-out to Sunrise Side.  I sent him two BA's to be tested and repaired.  He returned them in short order, repaired and tested at a very fair price.
My GK is now working fine and there is now peace in my household.   :Tongue_Out:

Thanks Sunrise!!!
