Title: Covid strikes another LCD screen tonight, WTH??
Post by: br549autosales on December 03, 2020, 09:21:12 PM
Powered up my Ms Little Green Men about an hour ago & after it booted to game play my top computer/monitor looks like it has too much contrast. Is there a color, contrast, brightness, etc level that can be adjusted on these Reel Touch machines? It looked perfectly fine Tuesday when we were playing it. Here is a pic of what it looks like now

There is no adjustment to my knowledge.
Try reseating the plugs on the video card (small orange card) attached to the motherboard is all I can suggest.
Is this the board you recently replaced? Are you sure it was a working motherboard?

Yes, it was a practically new motherboard I used for a replacement, looks like it had never even been used

I don't think it is a monitor issue, can you connect a laptop to that monitor to test it?  Looks like Video Ram issues.  Try replacing the ram on top mpu box, unless it has a discrete video card, in which case you might want to try a replacement, or test the video card on a computer.

Ram chips are not the issue.
Discrete video card

The video card I'm guessing is AGP, or maybe pci?  You could test that on a PC to see if you get the color issue, or use a pc monitor to see if the issue persists. If it does, then the video card is probably the culprit.

Not AGP or PCI the video card mounts on pins coming up from the motherboard it is unique to Reel Touch.
The daughter board (video card) will either have two or three plugs on top to drive the LCD screen depending on when the top box was built.

Rick take a look at this ebay item. It is the motherboard  and daughter card for a Reel Touch top box. (even the bios chip that comes with it is an IGT proprietary) this daughter card has two plugs if he needs a 3 plug card he is screwed.  I still think reseating the plugs and board may help.

First time I've ever seen that configuration.  So then the monitor is not a standard vga type, it connects to this daughter card through flat ribbon cables?  I knew there was a reason why I never got into the Reel Touch machines.

Yes in the top box the 15" touch screen LCD is what that is driving. The motherboard does have a standard VGA port that I have used to verify whether the LCD screen is bad. Yes Reel Touch are a bird all to themselves and are extremely frustrating. They are fun to play.

Got it guys thanks! The seated tfe 2 plugs on that card that attaches to the motherboard, somehow the one on the right was not plugged in all the way, my fault.

I thought the plugs would do it.
Glad you got it working. Now don't turn it on again until the vaccine for covid is readily available.  :rotfl:
