Title: No sound on alpha 2 pro
Post by: eferry on January 24, 2022, 06:50:00 AM
Suddenly lost the sound on my alpha 2 v22/32 machine. Has anyone else had this problem. It was working fine before it stopped. I swapped out the amp board but no change. There is no sound coming out of the audio part on mpu. The audio amp is good. Is there a fuse somwhere thay powers the audio and where is it. Is there a wireing diagram available for this.

Try swapping or replacing the USB cable from the MPU to the Audio Amp Board.

check the RCA digital audio plug from the backplane to the amp board.  It is worth noting that you cannot just change audio devices without doing a clear.  You can try doing a clear on the game.  Boot the game with the USB plug from the amp disconnected and see if it works. You will lose the ability to control the sound volume from the main game menu, but you can change that from the attendant menu. Also you cannot just try and use any USB sound device, the OS doesn't have any drivers for anything that is not a bally OEM part.

My guess is he is using a 2.0 CPU with the sound connected to the port on the front of the CPU.  This machine is not a standard Alpha 2, it's a A1 converted to an A2

So if you have a cable connected to the sound port on the front of the CPU, follow it back to where it goes on the other end.  Also, check the continuity of that cable.

Post photos of the front of the cpu as well as that sound board.  It doesn't sound like you have an A2 sound card installed

So  I swapped out my back board with the one from my alpha1 machine. same issue.  So at this point its either the computer cpu or the mpu backboard. I have no other parts to swap out. Im at a impass. Don't know what else to do.

That cable with the green end on it is the sound cable.  Did you check that?  From the photo you posted it  looks like it connects to some other cable.  Where does it go?  Have you checked it for continuity?

This is your sound amp, is it inserted all the way?  Try removing it and plugging it back it with the power off.  Could be bad contacts.  However, I mentioned other things to check in earlier comments and you never respond so helping you seems to be a one way conversion here.

I was thinking that the happ board would plug in
Somewhere else. The sound board that came
With the machine always worked fine. I believe
The problem is somewhere else in the machines
The problem started after the audio plug got pulled
Out accidently. Could the problem be comming
From the pc itself.

The Happ board can be used, just need power, USB, RCA cable to the backplane and communication from connection to your existing amp.  So that green connector cable to the CPU is good?  Is that where is got yanked?

And you checked the cable to make sure it was good?  Did you try another cable?

have you hooked up amplified headphones or similar to the output jack to verify there's nothing coming out of the jack.  If that is the case, the only way to fix that is to fix the jack that is broken (provided that is where the issue is) or go through the diginal sound output which is the SPDIF Jack on the backplane (you claim you don't have one, but ALL alpha 2 backplanes have it).  If you look at the back of your machine under the mpu tray, there should be an RCA type SPDIF jack smack in the middle about an inch below where the mpu plugs into the backplane.  The Happ digital sound amp connects to this jack in order to process the audio. The alpha 1 cabinet's audio is wired only through analog sound and has no capability to process digital audio.

The mpu audio jack. Where does the hap board
Get connected to and where does it get power from.
I just want to make sure this will resolve me issuse
Before spending 200 on the board.

At this point it is obvious that you don’t wish to follow the diagnostic steps necessary to determine the root cause of your issue.  I will respectfully bow out of this conversation.  I hope you find the solution you want the way you want it.

Hello eferry,
Do you have a multi-meter and know how to use one?
If so, check for continuity on your audio harness from one end to the other end and report back.
