Title: S+ coin comparitor coin getting stuck
Post by: chuck300x11 on June 05, 2017, 05:35:09 AM
On an s+ the coin is getting stuck just as it enters the coin the mech. The small part that flips up and down is sticking. What do you use to clean that area and do you use a lubricant after cleaning.
When the machine is on, should the light on the comparitor be on or off?

You can remove the little round knob from that part that moves up and down, the knob unscrews. That part that moves up & down is not needed for home use, it was meant to slow coins down as they are put into a machine, in case someone was trying to insert coins really fast.  The round knob is a counterweight on that teeter-totter arm, the knob weight you have may be too heavy for the coin you are using. The knob weights came in different sizes depending on which coins the machine was using, dollar coins down to nickel coins. The teeter-totter arm should freely move up and down, if it doesn't you can try cleaning it.

If you want to clean the coin path on the machine, including in the coin comparitor, just use a dry cloth or q-tip to wipe down. They never want any lubricant, grease, polish etc to be put where the coin travels, that would only make other problems. If someone has spilled something that has gotten into the coin path or inserted a coin that had stuff on it you can clean the coin comparitor with rubbing alcohol, then wipe dry.

The machine is using quarter sized tokens.
They might be too light for the counter weight.
Will give that a try

I would pull the comparitor, then disassemble it. You only have a few Phillips screws holding everything together. Take a couple picture with your cell phone before disassemble. I clean everyone I get in. You will be surprised how dirty the get. Also make sure the your comparitor mounting clips are in good shape, not cracked or loose. I have had one slide out of place causing coin jams. Also make sure your coin head and other mounting screws are tight. That will also cause James.

If the counterweight works without a sample coin inserted, and I mean it will return every time  without  hanging up, but hangs up with the sample  coin  inserted, you may just have to make a slight adjustment to get it to work properly. on the stationary part that the sample coin is pushed up against there is a hex set screw located on it, turn that ever so slightly CW, this increases the distance the incoming coin has to clear to be accepted and no cause a hang up.

Its worth a try, that adjustment has solved a lot of hang up problems for me.
