I picked a lot of games and this game maker was part of it, it seems to be missing the main board but everything else is there-
is it worth it to source a board and chips for this for a reasonable price?
-
Do you mean working or as is? Location can also make a difference in value.
Just for reference I bought a working 13" Gamemaker in Michigan a couple of months back for $550. It had a new LCD monitor and came with two extra (working) MPU boards and a couple of other small parts. I think I got a good deal on it, but that's probably a fair price for a working one with a CRT around here.

I would say I have just under 200 in it if I average out what was paid for the lot- how much would it cost for a main board and chips? also, I have the bill validator it just pulled it to look at

I think you'll do ok as long as the monitor is working. I haven't had to buy a MPU, but I've seen them in the $75 - $150 range in the past.
-
Do you think there’s a way to test the monitor with out the main board?
-
There's no easy way that I know of since the MPU generates the video signal and it doesn't have a standard VGA/DVI/HDMI connector to plug it into a different source.

Thanks for all the info- Ill see if I can track down a board and some chips

game eeproms are available. Send me a PM if you find a board that doesn’t have any.
I think a game board will run in the neighborhood of $100-$150 depending on whether you need the metal tray.
Gamemakers are fun machines and have a lot of great game options.
