USB cable disconnected more than likely.  There should be 4 cables plugged in.  All USB ports should be populated.  Sometimes unplugging and swapping ports helps.
Also check the Batteries on the two boards behind the reels.

All the batteries in the machine are new. All USB ports (on the front that I can see) are taken. 4 total are plugged in. I haven't tracked the other ends yet. One looks like it goes into the door. When I tried swapping then around, a ton of other errors popped up. REEL MOTION mostly. Now I can't get rid of them. Is there a way to clear the machine and start over?

Have you solved the mystery? Ive had that communication error for a while now on my shinning 7s. To the point where ive given up. Behind the reels, there are 2 boards. On the right is a body board. On the left is the NOK board. Each board has its own USB cable. The error is coming from the left board. Thats as far as i got. Finding parts will not be fun

Just for everyone’s future reference in this particular machines case it turned out there were 2 bad reel driver boards which I actually think were causing the noki pcb error.  So my advice is if you can’t seem to solve the noki pcb error check to make sure your reels are operatiional.  2 of the reels never locked up when power was turned on.  You could still spin them freely by hand.  I thought the noki wasn’t talking to them but actually I believe the reel stepper driver was bad and was causing the noki error.  After replacing the 2 reels the machine plays like a champ!!
