Title: Hopper issue
Post by: itsjimbob on January 10, 2023, 10:08:59 AM
Im looking for a little guidance before I start chasing. I have an 25 cent E2000 machine that normally works fine. The only issue it has is when the first few wins are awarded the hopper motor groans and does not turn resulting in an expected 31 tilt error. I need to open the machine and push the reset button to get it to pay. Sometimes this works but most times I need to shift the coins in the hopper or wiggle the entire hopper adjusting the beauplug connections. I have disassembled the hopper and cleaned it thoroughly. I have checked all of the adjustments forthe wiper and the counter switch. I have about 700 coins in the hopper. Once the machine pays a couple of wins it plays normally until it has sat for a day or two and then the process needs repeating.
Questions?
What is my most likely problem?

Could the connections on the beauplug be creating a voltage drop which causes an increased current and signals the 31 tilt?

Could I have too many coins in the hopper? The largest payout is 1000 coins.

Could the motor just be getting weak or have developed a flat spot? Are replacement motors available?

It does not blow fuses and it does have a new upgraded hopper board.

Thanks in advance.

You can do a hopper test. Open the door and press the test button until you see 4 on The led display. The hopper should pay out 10 coins and stop. Try this a few times and you can watch and listen to the hopper while the door is open. This may help you identify the problem.

Good luck!!!

Maybe some contact spray or a drop or two of oil in the armature could be gummed up or dirty ?

Hopper test does the exact same as a payout win. If I dont shift the unit or shuffle coins it fails and gives a 31 code.
I lubricated it when I had it disassembled. Iwas doing this before I took it apart and cleaned it. This was why I did it. I really think its electrical.

Did you lubricate the internals of the gearbox? The grease does dry up on the inside of these gearboxes due to age of 40 years.

I did not do that. Does the gearbox need to be removed from the hopper to lubricate it?
