Title: IGT s+ MPU Questions
Post by: scottf11961 on February 15, 2023, 05:08:14 AM
I have dip switches in a blue box to the left. What do they control? My BV cycles when powered up, but doesnt light up, and not taking bills. Is this a dip switch setting?

I actually did install a new battery, cleared the ram, then used a BV chip to set the bill validator on. (9-1). When I power the machine up, the BV does cycle, but that's it. To the left in the picture is a green and red wire. When I plug it into the BV,  the insert light flashes steady. On off on off on off..

I never used the BV, but I'd still like it functional. It's a wba-12-ss

that two pin connector is what turns on the bezel lamps, it has to be hooked up. all the switches on the wba unit , 8 of them have to be in the up position. there are two operations to using the set chip, 9-1, and setting the denomination, then you can do the stand alone test to determine if the wba does work. in you first post you listed the wrong switches, so I don't know if you were able to preform the test. here is a link to that test, https://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=31638.0

there are two types of transports used in the wba system, flash or eprom, even though the test may work, it does not insure what software is in the unit,

Try this test, and tell us what the results are, there is a list of what each of those 8 switches do, mostly select which bill the unit will accept and what IDO to select.  ALL SHOULD BE UP FOR NORMAL OPERATION AND IDO23 PROTOCOL.

Hope this helps

In my first post, I was looking at the switches on the MPU in a blue box. There's about 8 there as well,  and half are on half aren't. I didn't touch them because I'm not sure what they do. The BV has 8 switches as well.  I was told those have to be in the off position. I did try both, all in off, and all in on positions, but no changes.  I did set the BV  to '9-1", and set the denomination to .25 and saved.

It might be helpful to add that I have the exact same BV in another machine, and I swapped them just to see the result, but then neither machine worked. So the known working BV  did not work in the machine and visa versa

We didn't tell you to swap anything.
Do the test posted in Reply #3.

Ok. I did as instructed in the link. When I flip #8, while the unit is in and powered up, nothing happens. According to the link , it should have cycled. It didnt

if you feel that you did everything correctly then the unit is bad. to troubleshoot further you can take your working unit and preform the test on it and see how it works. then you can eliminate which part of the transport is bad, either the transport itself or the head, or both.  you can't hurt anything , just don't do swapping with the power on!

and again, as in the last post I asked you to get the diagnostic flip cards, on page 16 it tells you exactly what those 8 switches are and what functions each preform. using those cards, you can test every feature of your machine, very valuable tool when working on a s plus machine.

That silver box to the left of your bill validator is the power supply for the BV. If memory serves there is some communication in  there besides just power. That may be your problem.

I swapped out my optics with one I had just laying around, and the machine is now accepting coins, so my old optics, despite a good cleaning, must have went bad on me.  My bv is still not working.  You never mentioned diagnostic flip cards on page 16. Page 16 of what?  All this stuff is new to me. I purchased the triple double diamond for my wife who loves the game, but now it's become an addiction. Within a month, I purchased 6 slot machines. I appreciate  EVERYONES help here. Talk to me like I'm an idiot because I truly have no clue what I'm doing. I'm learning as I go. Two machines have bill validators that don't work. Another only takes $20s. One works perfectly (thankfully because it's coinless).  ..and I just picked up an Azure shinning 7s yesterday with an error #5. Learning as in going. My finished basement looks like a casino, and my chiropractor is that much richer.  I'm going to look in the silver box today and see what's in there

I'm wondering, can you bring the DBV unit ( Dollar Bill Validator) back to your dealer and ask if they can check it for you?
They might do it for free since you've bought 6 machines from them?

All the machines were purchased privately.  Haywire (Estate Sale) $200. Needed battery. Triple double diamond $300. Craigslist. Needed coin optics. BV doesn't work. Bally triple money( Marketplace) $200. Needed ram clear and he included the chips. BV doesn't work.  Jade Monkey (offer up) $200. Purchased used bv for 40 and now works perfect. Hogs and hounds, (Craigslist) $400. Guy sold house and was moving. Pristine cond. Works perfect  Yesterday I purchased an Azure shining 7s. Beast of a machine with topper. Paid $300. Currently has a communication error. .but for that price, I had to take it. Aside from the Azure, all the machines do work and are playable. I have the winnings set to go to credits. I'm going to post pics and start an album today

If I were you, I'd be packing that DBV in some bubble wrap and sending it off for Jim to look at.
I'm sure he'd get it going or have a working one for you to purchase.
