Title: Testing door optics - S+
Post by: mwade109 on February 21, 2023, 07:59:36 PM
Ok, so I'm have more of a problem getting rid of a 61 error than I should be having. I can get the 'ding' and 61  1 but can't go any further. I've tried a few different door optics and just to make sure they were aligned I am using the test bring the door optic to the cabinet side directly in front of the other. Still nothing.  Reset key switch works fine. But is seems weather I have the optics in the open OR closed position, when I then the reset key it will start displaying self test <?> numbers and I believe it should only do this when the door is closed.

Is there anything I can try that should ONLY work with the optics closed or ONLY when they're  open?

Also, anyone have a set of know working optics they want to part with?

When machine is on and you open the door the winner paid and credits lights should go blank.
When you close the door the coins played and insert coins should go blank.

Check the cash box door switch.

The only thing lit on the displays is the 61, door open or closed.

When machine is on and you open the door the winner paid and credits lights should go blank.
When you close the door the coins played and insert coins should go blank.

Interesting as I was think of something like that.  Seems someone took out ALL the cashbox assembly as well as the BV.  But I do question two green wires, that are cut and cable tied to the wired going to the arm switch.  One of the wires goes down to the 20 pin connector on the motherboard on pin 20 , the other goes up (i have not traced it). I am thinking these went to the cash box switch but not sure so I have not connected them together. Any ideas on those wires? I tried to look at the schematics but I am at a loss for reading them.  If these DO go to the cash box switch, should they be open or closed for normal use?

Check the cash box door switch.

Looks like them. Yes, if no switch they should be tied together. Again, as mentioned before, if your display does not go blank for a moment when the door is closed/latched down all the way, then the machine is not recognizing the door being closed....optics, cash box switch, etc.

Yeah, tie the green ground wires together and tape them up.
Those used to go to the cash box door microswitch.
This is why I just love 3M ScotchLok UY connectors...tape just comes off over time...  :rotfl:

Yes, you would know the "door" is in an open state, if credits get added when you push on the Service Credit button on the coin-in optics board.
It will NOT work if the "door" is in a closed state.

You seem to be handy making an emitter optic harness extension to the reel shelf.
You might as well just fix the wires to a cherry switch and be done with the optics with a bypass.
An S+ really doesn't need door optics.

My S+ I'm showing you below in a short film clip attached, hasn't had door optics for over 10-15 years.
I made it to show you your "door" state...open or closed.
To see if your door optics or bypass is working...>>>

Great video, thank you.  I put the two green wires together and got past my 61 1 issue only to uncover the next issue, 21. Machine comes on, insert coins blinks about 3 times then the 21 error comes on as well as the candle blinking (i have never seen the reels spin yet, just a small shake when I turn power on). My comparitar light never comes on, I took a voltage reading from pin 4 of the connector and pin 6 and not sure if I'm not reading it correctly or what but my meter says it is only getting 2.693v . I am not quite sure where to go from there.  I did continuity from pin 6 to the molex connector and all is good.

Thanks everyone for your input, it in invaluable!

21 is coin in optics board just below the coin comparitor.  Check wires going to it or it may need cleaned or replaced.  There are 3 censers inside it.  Clean with warm water swab NOT alcohol.

You are progressing so keep you head up. You wont see the light on the CC on as it happens when the door is closed and booted up.

So when you close the door does the display go blank then the 21 pops back up?

Have you tried the little credit button under the coin comparator to see if it will add credits to test?

So, I think all is well with this machine, what a pain in the butt! Ended up swapping the coin optics with my pe+ slant top and that took care of it, now I am in need of a set for the slant top if anyone has a set.

So, all said and done, needed coin optics, needs door optics, hookup wire that was left dangling when someone took out the bv assembly, straighten out the wires that someone swapped between reel 1 & 2, mess with the hopper as the clutch wasn't pulling in the plastic tab far enough to let the motor spin.

Thanks everyone for their input, please let me know if you have a working coin optics.
