Model: MV2
Symptom: Stuck at crosshatch

Board had a 1/3AA lithium battery installed as a backup battery.

Tested the battery and it was dead. Removed the battery. Removed 2 slot connectors and cleaned spill that had hardened under it. Patched one trace at a via under one of the slot connectors to restore Program ROM address line A3. Cleaned up one slot connector and reinstalled it. Replaced the 2nd slot connector. Board was still stuck on crosshatch but all signals were now present. Lifted multiple bent component pins and traced out 10 scratched and gouged traces. Patched one trace and tested. Installed coin cell kit and retested.

Symptom: Z80 Error

Board had a lithium 1/3AA installed for a backup battery.

Clipped the 470 ohm resistor out of the charging circuit to keep the PCB from recharging the lithium battery as that is very dangerous. Board was missing the 6116-10 Sound RAM chip. Installed a 24 pin narrow socket and a replacement RAM chip. Tested.

Model: MV1FT
Symptom: Z80 Error

Note: Board had the Z80 already replaced.

Checked the area between the backup battery and the YM2610 for the typical trace damage and found none. Checked the previous tech's work and found that Address line A2 did not have continuity between the M1 ROM and the CPU. Patched the trace with some Kynar wire and tested. Removed the battery and installed a coin cell kit. Tested.

Found the typical trace damage between the battery and the YM2610 sound chip. Cleaned the area, patched the traces carrying data lines D0, D1, and D2 for the sound subsystem past the battery area and tested. Installed a coin cell kit and tested.

Model: MV4
Symptom: Graphic corruption on slot 4

Board had a poorly installed audio cap job done on it.

Cleaned hardened foam and fish paper from the bottom of the top board. Patched corroded trace from slot to the 74LS253 at F3, pin 3. Removed and reinstalled all the audio caps. Replaced 2 100uf caps that had physical damage and 3 470uf and 1 220uf caps that were not replaced by the previous tech. Now the caps were sitting low enough to fit under the top board without shorting where the fish paper and foam was removed. Installed coin cell battery kit and tested.

Model: Neo Geo MV4
Symptom: Unknown. Not listed.

Board arrived with a Diagnostic BIOS set installed and the 74LS86 chip replaced.

Ran the Diagnostic BIOS set and all tests passed. Removed the ROMs and installed regular ones. Board would not see cartridges. Repaired 2 battery damaged traces but the board still would not see the carts installed. Found the enable pins on the 74ALS245 data bus latches stuck high. Replaced a shorted 74ALS08 at C7 and a shorted 74ALS244 at C11 to fix that issue. Board would boot but had distorted sounds on the right channel. Replaced bad YM2610 and installed a coin cell battery kit to finish the repair.
