Triple Diamond in French?
« on: March 13, 2023, 04:55:05 AM »
Saw an ad in PA, guy sold his house and was moving. He listed a few items he had for sale. One listed was a slot machine. I contacted him , and he said it was a triple diamond machine, and he didnt know much more about it. It was in his shed for a few years. Since I was already looking at a machine in a different part of PA, I decided to swing by his place. $200 later, we loaded it into my truck. It showed error 12, which i replaced the battery as soon as i got home. After a ram clear, it was up and running. It was at that moment, i really started looking at the machine and realized everything on it was in english AND french. Is that rare?? I also noticed it has 25 cent symbol on top and belly glass. I have another triple diamond. and it doesn't have that. Are there rare features or common? I was so happy at the $200 price, I never looked at it until i got it home. I plugged it in at his house, everything lit up, it had chips, it had a bv, and it had an MPU...so I was happy.

Many machines in Canada are bilingual

I figured it came from Canada, I've just never seen one like that. I can swap out the buttons, but I think I'd like to keep it original

There's a big clue that it was used in Canada -- look at the yellow arrow for the bill validator to the right of the third reel and read the text.

Sorry if my post was confusing.  I do know it's from Canada. I didn't realize it when I purchased it. Not that it matters. My question was if it's a rare find. I've never seen another. .and the belly glass and top glass is different with the added 25 cent symbol

My question was if it's a rare find.

I guess I'd go with, "it's less common". I'm sure there are others out there in the world like it, though. The bilingual glass probably doesn't make it any more valuable if that's what you're asking, but sure, it's not as common to find here as all-English glass.

Is it rare?
Not really, your machine is just a plain IGT S2K with mis-placed, oddball glass.
Pretty worthless in the States...

Everybody speaks English, and Spanish.

Who's going to want a machine with French on it?  :Scratch-Head:

Interesting post.
I am from Canada, lived in PA from 2000-2007, this wasn't mine.

I bought my slot machines (from Ohio) as its not common for slots to make it to the wild in Canada,
- as an aside we had a casino close down, they couldn't sell their black jack / poker tables to the public as they are gambling equipment.
They simply removed the felt so now they were "tables" and not black jack tables. No problem selling used tables.
Of course Its pretty easy to get custom felt done for a poker table or blackjack.
Its also not illegal to own gaming equipment but it can't be sold from a casino.

Living in Western Canada our slots - and VLTs (Video Lottery terminals - as they are called when used in bars) are all in English.

In Quebec, French is mandated. The language police will go as far as to audit businesses and if they find a computer (like a POS system etc) that is only being used by an employee and is not being run in French they can shut down the company.  Marks Work Warehouse - which is a clothing chain focused on Work (safety) Boots, and clothes aimed at the outdoors for trades people were taken to court as their name was not French enough. They wanted it changed to Marc (with a C vs K) as that is the French spelling of Mark. The counter was that Mark's was a brand name used across Canada just like McDonalds is. Marks lost, so they closed up - 11,000 workers lost jobs, 900 locations shut down, plus distribution centers etc. The Quebec governments position was "We sure showed them". SOOOooo stupid.

SO - I do think its rare to have French buttons, and French glass in the wild. Is it more valuable ?? - probably not - and as Mark/c (Stayoutofthebunker) pointed out probably has less global appeal.

Have you checked out if the bill validator is in US or Canadian money ??

At some point in its life, it was converted to plain ol currency. The BV has a nice loud whine too it, BUT, as of now, is still taking bills. I didn't think the value would increase, but its definitely rare.
