Hello Everyone, looking for some help. I am working on an s2000 reel touch that was working. After some time of it being down, upon start up the top screen shows the boot process then the bottom display says MSverify Comm Error, after about 1omin, the top screen says please wait a moment and the bottom display says Display passes self test and stays like that for about 10min and the top screen tries to reboot its self, and it continues to reboot about every 10min or so. What should I be checking first. Both top and bottom batteries are good.

When it starts does the blue vfd at any time get to "waiting for video display "

Ok let me start off with do NOT disconnect or connect anything with the power on. This goes for anything inside the slot machine.
Ok let's start by separating the top box from the bottom.
On the back of the top box disconnect the molex plug with the three gray wires.
Power up the machine please report back on the step by step display from the top box.
From the initial splash screens to when it stops doing anything.
If all is okay it should eventually stop with a darker blue screen with a text box in the center ending with the words initializing.
The bottom mpu looks like it's working properly.

Top went through its bios start up the. Went to the blue screen and says one moment please. The bottom was waiting for video then went to msverify comm error and it’s been that way for about 15min.

After about 15 to 20min the bottom says display passes self test.

After about 30 to 40 min it tried to reboot. Going through bios and same process as stated before.

I need more details on top box sequence.
Post a photo of the screen that says please wait
There is something wrong with the top box.
What does the initial splash screen say on the top box.
Do you have a red white and blue finger splash or green and yellow energy star?
How many different blue screens.
I need step by step I can't see the machine booting you must give more detail.

First screen shows the red white and blue with the finger
Then goes to the bios
As it’s going through the bios the bottom says waiting for video display
Screen goes black for about 5 to 7 min.
Then blue screen that says IGT reel touch, one moment please.
Bottom says waiting for the video display while this screen is already on.
5min Peter the top screen still the same and bottom displays msverify comm error
10 to 15min later bottom says display passes self test. It stays this way for about 25min and then the top tries the reboot going through this process again.

OK good description.
You have a bios 1 machine based on rwb finger splash.
From this point don't worry about the bottom VFD
because we have disconnected its ability to get information from the top box when we unplugged the gray wired molex plug. As long as it is getting to waiting for video display it is working.
My initial analysis is either the harddrive has failed or there are other problems in the top box.
I will need some pictures. There is a size limit that you can post here, you usually must reduce them before you can post them.
Open the top box take a picture of the board. Look for bulging capacitors on the board.
Turn the machine on, verify that the cooling fan mounted to the cpu heat sink is operating and not full of dirt. Be careful the fan blades are fragile.
I also need to know the theme of this machine along with any information printed on the hard drive.
Warning, you have a bios 1 type reel touch do not try and view the information on the harddrive with another computer, doing this will destroy the harddrive if it's not bad already.
Eventually I will need to know from the lower mpu the chip numbers for the SG, SB, and VS chips.
Also is it a 500 series or enhanced mpu board.

The Machine is Kenny Rogers The Gambler
The top board looks fine no bulging capacitors
All fans work and everything is clean. This did work before and was down for about 6mo and when they restarted it started giving these issues.

Hard to tell but there does seem to be a few bulging ends on the capacitors above the cooling fan. Can you confirm this. Especially if this machine was stored in a hot place like Arizona those caps tend to dry out.

Yes the tops of those caps are a little rounded and not flat.

Well it's 50/50 the board may need to be recapped (tough job) or the harddrive went south(drives don't usually stop where yours is locking up).
PM if you want to talk about a harddrive.
