Title: Replace hard drive on AVP machine with 2.0 brain
Post by: Bill Hill on May 03, 2017, 11:03:36 AM

I have an IGT AVP machine with a 2.0 brain box running Da Vinci Diamonds.  I think that the current hard drive in the machine is bad.

I’m getting these messages:
• "No system launcher is found or determined system boot fails"
• "Can’t find hard drive"

Sorry about last post, I hope this formats better.

I work in IT so I have access to another hard drive to replace the bad one. The good news is a have an eKey 7. I have two USB sticks labeled Da Vinci Diamonds and a license USB.

Not sure how to remove the brain but I think that I can figure it out. I’m hoping that the hard drive I’m replacing is a standard computer hard drive. I’m asking you advice on how to reinstall the game on the new hard drive.

These are my questions:
• Do I need to format the new hard drive and if I do what format would I use a FAT or FAT32
• In the AVP-How-To-Guide it talks about the “Write Enable Jumper”.  I think that it is attached to the brain currently.  Does that make sense that the jumper would still be enabled.
• To install the software do I 1) insert the eKey 7 into the USB port on the brain 2) insert the two Da Vinci Diamonds USB sticks into the side board 3) insert the license USB into the side board
• Restart the machine

If you are changing the hard drive you need to format it using the ekey and diagnostic thumb drive. The drive is formatted as Lynix btw, then you need a installer with the os to be installed using the ekey. Them using the ekey you can install the game and set the machine up all over again.

Where to I get the OS from.  Is it on the eKey 7?  Is the OS tied to the boot chips on the mother board?

The OS is on it's own separate thumb drive like your installers (GI,GT,etc.).  You must have the os thumb drive.

Is the OS different based on the version of the brain?  Do the boot chips affect the OS version?  I found a note that talked about an old OS AE011042, is that the label on the thump drive I need.  I could post a WTB on the NLG Classified but I'm not sure what to ask for.

The OS is dependent on the boot chips as well as the game theme.  AE011 is family 11.  If you have a particular game and know the software version I can look up the requirements as far as os and boot chips for you.

The game is Da Vinci Diamonds GE011001H180009

I have not pulled the brain out yet, plan to do it this weekend but I'm pretty sure that the boot chips are for family 011.

Do you have OS USB sticks for sale or know where I can buy one.  Do I need a diagnostic USB stick also?

Think you all for your help this weekend.  The problem has been solved.

These are the steps I used to solve the problem
1) The hard drive I used to replace the failed one was from a Windows machine so I had to reformat it to the default FAT32 format
2) Used the family 011 OS thumb stick with the eKey 7 to format and install the new OS on the hard drive
3) Installed the software on the hard drive
4) Set the date/time for the license dongle by pressing the "white button" on the brain and selecting the RTC setting

Again thank you all for the help. When I can afford a brain update I might be asking for your help again.
